My friend Paul just retired last year; as a conductor, he had 15 fatal accidents during his career of about 40 years.  He said it is one of the hardest things to deal with as a railroader.

My mom works in the office for a local security company, and said one time that one of their guards used to be a CN engineer, he quit after seeing the two small heads pop up in the back seat of a car that ran a crossing that he only very narrowly missed. That was enough for him.
