Now that PollyScale is no longer available I need an alternative for CSX New Image Blue and CSX New Image Gold. What is recommended and AVAILABLE ? Thank you.

Silly me, why would I ask such an 'offensive' question in a Conrail blue forum, right ?

  Perhaps it is that no one knows the answers you seek, as opposed to not answering out of spite.

Go to the websites of all the currently-available paint lines and look at their paint charts.  Most of them offer CSX colors.  You'll have to experiment to see which one is best to your liking.

:D Bryan, I did what you suggested before I posted here but thank you. Peteski, thank you.

I found a chart online (Microscale website) which suggests Vallejo Royal Blue and Model Master Chrome Yellow. I have no experience neither with Vallejo nor Model Master, all I know they are acrylic or water based which is what I am after. The Model Flex CSX blue is wrong in my opinion and the (not so) new kid on the block, Tru-Color have no CSX colors listed at all (and the tools have to be cleaned with acetone).

Are Vallejo and Model Master colors as easy to use as good old Polly Scale ? Who can (or will  ;) ) share their experiences ? Thank you.

I use both brands, and yes, they're easy to use. Usage wise, there's no difference between the Pollyscale, and the Model Master.

Vallejo, however.... Vallejo comes in squeeze bottles, which can make mixing it an adventure. Takes a bit of shaking and kneading the bottle. My experience with it is that it needs a primer coat under it, and dries very soft. You must clear coat over it. It's a shame too, since when properly mixed, it dries dead flat even when brushed on.

Cleanup's a breeze, with both brands. Just water will usually do, though I do like to use a brush cleaner.

Thank you Greyryder, very appreciated. I will order these colors then and try them.

Before Polly Scale came out with it, I was using Modelflex MP Blue (16-86) and NP Yellow (16-78).  Actually, I still use both of those colors for the CSX YN3 such as this SD40-2 that I did last year...or maybe two years ago...my memory is getting bad.

Cheers,
Brian

Brian, that yellow is bang on... I always thought the decals were a bit too orange. The blue, while the right tint may be a shade too dark. It could also be the lighting. Shooting dark blues is always a challenge.

Great job on the engine. It looks fantastic!
