Something new with Atlas C80 flex?

Yesterday we had our initial work session on the BANTRAK 2014 raffle layout. Got the roadbed and 90% of the track done and when we got to a new section of Atlas C80 flex...no holes. We started making our own but then noticed starter holes drilled from the underside. Anyone else noticed this?  Nice if it's a new standard, especially for those who glue vs. nail...

yes...I believe this has become Atlas' standard for both code 80 and code 55 flex
not sure about sectional, would have to look
but regardless it is a fine option allowing for both quite readily

How about Minitrix, Arnold and Roco tracks?  Then we could also check Kato, Fleischmann, Life-Like, and Bachmann tracks...
Might as well be all-encompassing.

Kato doesn't finish the holes through. They have to be drilled out from the bottom.

It is cheaper in plastic molding to not have thru holes.

I guess this makes it even easier to switch over to Peco track.  I just picked up a few switches since Atlas code 80 is vapor ware.  I use the holes so if I am going to have to drill them I might as well use a nicer and available product going forward.

That was a "Whoopsie". The first batch from the new factory came with blind holes. All subsequent shipments will have through holes.

So much for what was perceived as progress..... 
Seems that most modelers here would prefer blind holes.  At least now we know the real scoop.  Thanks Cory!

Thanks for that info, Cory.
I prefer the through holes to tack track in certain spots while the glue and or ballast dries.
I remove the nails after everything is set.

I guess after buying a couple hundred T pins (and using adhesive caulk) I see no reason to have holes on any track... atleast of the atlas (easy to flex) variety. I use code 80 on street running traction models and conform to it 5" radius turns...held down by t pins while caulk dries never had an issue with track staying in place... Who wants those unsightly holes on any rail when you don't need them at all...

You're right. Most modelers here, on the Railwire would prefer blind holes. However, most modelers in the rest of the model railroad world still rely on the holes being included all the way through.

What if I told you that Code 100 18" radius Snap-Switches remain one of our top sellers in our track line?
