The only thing jumping out at me immediately is the ability to reach into the upper right corner without messing up any scenery to fix a derailed train, cleaning track etc.

Yep, a good point that I didn't think about... Perhaps, John is tall and has long arms

Mixy, thanks for posting this plan, and for bringing the SCARM gallery to our attention.  However, the Layout Engineering board is intended for layout builders who wish to maintain a discussion-rich blog about their own layouts.  So, unless you plan to build this pike and post progress here, or John plans to join Railwire and post his progress, I am inclined to move this thread to the N Scale board.
