UPRR Geneva Sub Moving to Georgia

This weekend I will begin dismantling the UPRR Geneva Subdivision for a move to Marietta, GA.  Not sure how much of it will be resurrected in our new location due to limited basement availability in Georgia, but I hope to at least keep the Proviso Yard and Mississippi bridge running.  Time will tell.

Greater
distance from Atlanta will result in more basements but greater commuting frustration. Kennesaw or Canton-ish may be a more satisfying result in the balance, volume of basement vs. time to enjoy it...

Having lived there, I would hazard the latter.

Having built numerous homes in the Mayretta/Ackworth/Canton/Cartersville area,, there are some real nice basements in the area. Plenty of room. Most houses use TJI or trusses for floor joists, which makes it a plus,, no mechanicals hanging down to intrude on head room/finishing ceiling.

Moving bites,, but hey,, new basement, new ideas.

I'm disappointed to hear that from a personal standpoint, as I'd hoped to visit your layout while in the area since my son lives in Rockford.   But, assuming you can find a nice layout space I'm sure it will be a good move for you.  Best of luck with the transition!   8)

Should we queue up Gladys Knight and the Pips' "Midnight Train to Georgia" for you?

Seriously though, your railroad and modeling were top notch and hope that you find success in the transition, as well as time and space for a new model RR. Good luck and keep us posted.

I'm glad you have posted so many great photos and videos of your layout. My sons will be disappointed to hear you're moving the layout...just the other day they asked me if they could visit your layout some day (they are 7 and 9 years old). I gave them the usual "maybe someday" answer. I wish you luck with the move!

Hi Tivo , Miss you Atlanta guys. You will discover that the model RR community in the Atlanta area is great.I had to tear down the Pacific Interchange RR,located in Johns creek, ga  last year.I will start the new rr in about three months iin a new Florida location.

Sad news, but hopefully for a good reason. I'm glad we have been able to see it and operate on it last year.

Congratulations Daryl and welcome to the south!

Ideally you would look for a new construction home, built into a hill so you can have a walk-out basement, new construction because it's lots easier to configure it for a layout.  I suspect Marietta will offer something like that.

I hope your move from Northern Illinois will be as good as ours was.

The really good news is now you will be lots closer, and we have a favorite lunch place in Marietta...

Can we look forward to your layout being a stop on the "Piedmont Pilgrimage" this fall?

Daryl seems to work fast enough that with a bigger basement, saving a few sections, etc. we will probably be seeing the new version sooner rather than later.

This seems to be the N scale version of the Allegany Midland, Argentine Division, and a few other big HO layouts.....

Good luck!
