Dear Atlas: Conrail/NS/CSXT SD50s w/ Intermountain Parts?

Dear Atlas.. (along the lines of Dear Micro Trains thread)

So taking the assumption that the IM SD40-2 is still built upon Atlas SD50/60 parts, and IM is tooling a new truck side-frame to make this (see below) a correct advertisement for the N scale run....

Is there a chance that we could see Atlas SD50s with the Inter-mountain truck side-frame for Correct CR/NS/CSXT SD50s?

Please :)

It might be possible to buy the sideframes from InterMountain to install on your existing SD50 units.

Well Yeah that too.. But I can always use MORE SD50s :)

I'm assuming the correct fuel tank will be too much to ask...

I'm kinda spooked now. I really hope the SD50 issues were corrected cause if not why on earth would they use parts from that model? Unless the parts are just cosmetic parts and not drive train parts? I really want their NS SD40-2's!!!

Not all the SD50s had problems.

The sd40t, 45t, 45-2, 40-2w, 50, 60, &60m all share the same parts...  So if I wonder if it's a flaw in the production run (like brittle plastic) vs a global design flaw.  -ian

Very well could be. Everyone says it was the earlier runs although has it ever been verified that it was a particular run? I will probably end up getting a pair the latest run SD60.

It's interesting though that IM is using Atlas parts. Never knew that.

I was very involved in that research.
And I hardly EVER hear anything about it any more.

I think it was the early run.  I have no idea what Atlas changed, but it would appear the problem was resolved.

It's odd that the issue is associated with an early run of a specific model when the part in question is so widely used.

In fact.. I think the SD60 (and maybe the 60M) came before the SD50, and early SD60s aren't associated with the problem either....
I recall BLW selling custom SD60s painted in SD50 schemes because the SD50 hadn't been released yet.

The model in question (SBD SD50) is listed on Atlas's Website as a 1999 release..
And I'm pretty sure the Conrail SD60 and 60M runs predate that.

When you get your SD60 - Put the SBD SD50 shell on it and see if it has the same issues :).. May be it's the shell!!!!  :ashat:

Can't believe that was 15 years ago.. (I was a Freshmen in college!)

HAHAHAHAHA!!!  But, gosh, I hope not.

I'm still tempted to repower my SBD SD50s.  I have them running just good enough that it has prevented me from pulling the trigger to date on that expensive purchase, but I still am not 100% satisfied with the running characteristics of mine.  I'm already out at least $30.00 on replacement trucks from Atlas that resolved nothing.

Sorry, but the assumption is incorrect.  SD40-2 should be all new ground up.

IF what you say is true... CRAP!!!.. The Quest for a Flexcoil truck for SD50s continues!!!

At least the SD40-2s will be resolved.
