This is a combo of old Route 66 trailers cut down, and an "NSCALEADDICT" 379 Pete. I have a lot to do but progressing well.........................

Nice , looks like the tanks are made out of Silly Putty .

I don't know about silly putty but they look like they are made out of FUD. Not so, just a real poor job of spraying on some guys part. A little sanding with wet/dry 1000 grit paper made them mucho better.

I think you do great work. And I especially appreciate the 3D printed models. But for us non Truck guys, could you add a year or time period for each model. Living with a budget means only buying things appropriate to what train models I do, not all the ones I want

That said, similar truck and trailer combinations were common in the Northwest at least as far back as the 60s, in both semitrailer and "wagon" styles, with the front trailer axle permanently attached to the trailer.

Here's my version, made on the cheap, as usual for me.  It started with an Athearn Mack dump truck, after the bed was used for another project.  The tank lengths were determined by cutting one Herpa trailer just in front of the hose tubes(?), to minimize the effort there.  New ends were made from 0.06 inch styrene sheet, filed and sanded to shape.  The trailer wheels and front suspension are from an Athearn twin trailer set.  If I ever do another one I'll probably use CMW wheels and build my own front mount, as converting  the Athearn dolly to a permanent pivoted unit was at least as much work as simply building one.  It's held on with a 00-90 screw from MT.  The box under the truck tank is from a passenger car core kit detail set.

The seam on the side of tanks shows much better in pictures than in person, so it needs more work, but this is the first time I've taken a picture of it...  The "Route 66" trailers are the same castings, and their conventional tractor looks like a Peterbilt, so there's another option if one doesn't want a Mack.  Or the same style could also be used on an Atlas Ford. 

I'd love to see trucks done, as cab and chassis sets, in injection molded plastic, with the bodies to be added by the modeler.  It's a lot easier to do bodies than cabs in 3D printing, as the runs can be shorter, the details are usually simpler, and there's a much bigger variety of prototype bodies than trucks to put them on.  Cabs, on the other hand, have a lot of curves and small details, which are still hard to print well, and a Mack or Peterbilt will look much the same regardless of location or use.

Very nice piece of work. I've seen many that look like that through the years. I drove a  body load / pup unit out of Albuquerque back in the day for a major left coast oil company. Very nice but I don't quite understand why you made the dolly pivot. It is not permanently attached to layout?
