ozone smell

I have a pair of E R Models Sharks that have a ozone smell when they are running. Does this mean the motor is about to fry?

Are the motor  brushes arcing as the  commutator rotates?
Could  be they are wearing in, or may need cleaned

More than likely that oil has migrated to the comutator and brushes. The safest answer would be to pull the motors and clean them with some electronics parts cleaner or even RC Car electric motor cleaner to remove the oil. Then of course relube the motor bushings.

Nothing!  Brushes are made of self-lubricating graphite. Any organic lubricant will only burn up and cause problems.

OK. SKIPGEAR mentioned motor bushings not brushes  In that case what is best lube for bushings?

I use sewing machine oil as lube for most of my locos. I also recently bought lube from my LHS which is meant for locos and rolling stock. Its more solid than the sewing machine oil but is supposed to be stay as clean. Not rocket surgery, browse your LHS.

I use a set from Woodland Scenics http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/785-650 for all the N scale lubricant needs.  I use ultra-light oil for motor bearings.  I use a hypodermic needle dispenser for the oils, to be able to carefully control the amount.  I bought this set about 20 years ago and I barely put a dent in it (even though I service plenty of N scale locos).
