. On a Sanborn doesn't PINK denote brick construction and YELLOW wood or something else?

Yep, sounds about right. The colours absolutely DO denote different construction materials, you'd want a look at a sample legend to keep it straight. Brick, wood, concrete, metal, etc.

Also on the main subject, in Toronto, right next to Union Station, CN and CP both had coach yards and servicing facilities including round houses. All of it completely gone now except for the old CP roundhouse, which in various sections of it houses a brewery, RR museum and furniture store. The Skydome - er, sorry, Rogers Centre - sports stadium occupies the former location of the old CN roundhouse and servicing facilities.

Well, and the station is still there and heavily used of course. The modern VIA Rail and GO Transit (regional commuter service) maintenance facilities are located farther to the west.

The track layout is (theoretically) possible..

Since a turntable may not require a "Pit" to Operate.. the Turntable could be constructed on level ground with elevation raised at the escape tracks and roundhouse.. Then have the adjacent yard tracks running through the turn diameter.  (with 'at grade' rail diamonds/frogs in place between the Turntable rail and the yard track rails meet.)

Then design a smaller pit/drainage just off the yard tracks towards the pivot of the table.

.. Or the yard tracks are 18' above the table.  However you can see a switch to the turn table on one of the tracks that goes through the turntable..

Since the roundhouse is indicated to be removed, the turntable was probably filled in, but the track work to it still remains as part of the enlarged yard.
