Weekend Update 1/26/14

Not setting the world on fire with my output lately, but some cricket on the TV has kept me inside, so I've actually done something.

My WNY&P C-630M has a new stack, radiator walkway and some Archer louvres for the engine air intakes.  Still trying to Dofascorise the GE trucks, not sure if it's a happening thing.

On the workbench is a project I need to finish within 8 months.  Morristown & Erie C-424's 18 & 19 have their 50th birthday in September, so I want to have mine completed before we travel to Morristown.  I'm rebuilding the 18 that I made 15 years ago, and building a new 19.  I'll post progress in another few months!!!

I've been working on the lighting for CN 8918. They're a little blue for my tastes so I'll have to tint them a tad and work on fixing all the light leaking around the ditch lights.




I'm waiting for my red 0402 SMDs to arrive in the mail so I can work on lighting the DPU marker lights.

Ive been working on the I1's and have 2 about done.  I still have 2 more to finish with long distance tenders but i am in no hurry seeing i don't have a yard to store anything yet. 

I put the engines on the side for a spell and decided to shift gears a little this week and started the turntable at Lewistown and also started laying out the switches for the yard.  I'm hoping to get that laid this week.

I've been working on this on 1:29 scale diorama/switching layout for over a year now.  I don't have too much worthy to show, but I'm to the point that almost all the track is down.  I need to standardize on tie size; there is no track in 1:29 scale so I have a bunch ranging from 1:20.3 narrow - 1:32 standard.

Oh, I left the can of DullCote in there so you could see the scale of everything.  The near turnout to the wall is 8'.

Adding lights is one of my favorite parts too and those tiny SMDs really open up a lot of possibilities. DPU is distributed power unit. DPUs can be put at the rear or somewhere in the middle and are controlled via remote from the lead locomotive. CN has lights on the front and rear of their locomotives equipped with DPU controls to show that DPU is on and act as rear marker lights. I don't have the space to run trains big enough for pushers on the back but it'll be a nice little feature on the model.

No N scale. I spent the weekend working on my club's EM gauge layout. We have lots to do still before it's first exhibition in late March.

Thank you - Jeff painted the models for me and he usually mixes his own paints to match the reference photographs I supply for the job.  The NAR colour was referred to as Harvest Gold, I believe, and there are some fairly good reference photographs of new cars on pages 12-13 of Morning Sun's Canadian Railways Vol. 2.  If you want more specific paint type and colour used I can ask Jeff for you.

If I wasnt a member of an N-Trak club, I'd be doing 2mm.
I love the way the finescale groups push the bar higher and the standards finer.
I still have to "un-finescale" some GWR 4-wheeled coaches that were assembled with 2mm Association wheelsets and tophat bearings. Hoping that I don't end up loosing the whole underframe just to get the wheelsets out...
