Poll: How have you integrated your Idevices into the hobby?

Just curious to see how some of you integrate the use of smartphones and tablets into the hobby.  I have an Iphone and Ipad, and am looking to take full advantage of their capabilities.  I for one have downloaded the app WiThrottle and have only scratched the surface on using it to control my trains.  I'm hoping to hear suggestions on apps or other interesting ways you've been able to improve things with the technology.  Thanks!

     Before my Ipod died,  I had the free version of an app(might have been WiThrottle) that I used when we ran DCC and had a wireless network set up in conjunction with it.  Was great running my trains and listening to tunes(I saved my club mates from my taste in music) the way I do here at the man cave.  My layout atm is not DCC,  maybe someday.  I guess I could have put some train sounds on ITunes and had a poor mans sound system.  Not sure about that one though.

My ipad and Netflix provides nice background noise while working on projects. It's small enough that it fits nicely on the workbench.

It also is helpful for last minute lookups of things, but I still find myself relying on my laptop for real research.

And my Android phone has shot a lot of in-progress photos of the layout and various other projects. It also doubles as a handy throttle, but I still plan on having at least one DT400 series around, cause there are some things it just can't do (like consisting).

What are I-devices?  :D

(Note: NOT sent from either my laptop, my Nook, nor my smartphone.  I have fat fingers and don't like to squint. )

Seriously, though, I have my last computer waiting for a new hard-drive so I can (start to) use it to drive my Loconet via PR-3 using JMRI software.  At that point I may experiment with smartphone apps for throttles.  Eventually I hope to install block-detection and signalling to be driven by JMRI.

In the meantime I am working out a system for track warrants, and a staging plan for the layout (given the limited staging I've temporarily been able to come up with on the C&I Sub.)  After all, that's how they did it 50 years ago (sort of, and probably better!)

Oh!  And I got Chromecast for Christmas!  I want to try it out in the trainroom.  Anyone have any good "Cast-able" links with real train sounds to recommend?  I mostly run first and second generation EMD's (say thru F3's thru E8's, GP-7's and SD-24s).

1) WiThrottle. I kept my iPhone 2 when upgrading just to use it as a cheap throttle.

2) Philips Hue. iPhone/iPad-controlled ambiance lighting I'm working on for the layout. I have one of the new BR30 bulbs, and it's very promising; waiting for GU10 form-factor.

3) JMRI direct. Not there yet, but closely following projects that may eventually put dispatcher or local "tower" control panels on an iPad, even if it's an HTML interface.

Aside from keeping my want list in a Google Doc for easy reference at the hobby shop or shows, no. They don't really integrate with a Tech II or the homebrew 9v battery throttles or finger flick switches.

Should have posted in the dcc/electronics forum I guess.  Didn't realize the cops would have taken it so hard.  Thanks to those who provided meaningful dialogue on my topic of interest.  :D
