atlas/kato truck interchangeability?

Hi

I am wondering if trucks from an Atlas/Kato (Japan) RSD4/5 or RSD12 (same truck, I believe) could be transplanted into an Atlas/Kato (Japan) U25B mechanism?

Regards

I can't help you, as I don't have any RSDs, but they used the same frame as the Atlas/Kato RS3, if you have one of those.  So, if the RS3's trucks will fit the U25B, the RSD trucks should as well.

Ben,
They do fit and the loco runs just fine. I actually tried it.

I don't have any RSD's either, but I am curious as to what you may be building?

Hi Wardie

Not building anything with this particular combination, but given the chassis wb (leaving the centre axle out) and overall wb and regaugeability of the Atlas/Kato RSD trucks, it may be a way to come up with a correct mechanism for an EMD FT, in TT scale . you need NWSL wheels though, drilled for 3/32" bores and K&S tube to make the axle stubs.  but I have some of those.

U25B wb = 36'2" in N = 27' 1/2" in TT.  An FT is 27"3" wb.  if I see one cheap I may pick it up.
