FL-9 Project

Using an FL-9 shell I got from Shapeways, I have embarked on an N scale FL-9 project.  I have been collaborating with friend Clint Giustra on a suitable chassis.  I'd love to power it but, will settle for a dummy pushed along by a powered car, if necessary.   The loco, itself, dictates it must be decorated in the NH McGinnis scheme and I, once again, sincerely miss Northeast decals.  Years ago, I decorated several Lifelike FA-2 pairs with Northeast Decals and wish I had squirreled away a few sets.  So my first question is, does anyone have a set of the appropriate Northeast Decals for a NH, McGinnis cab unit they would be willing to part with?  Another question:  would caboose red be an acceptable stand-in for Socony Red?

The shell is pretty nice.

I can't help on the decals, but True Color paint #39 is NH Socony Red!  It's my new favorite paint.

I also recall reading that Socony red was the same Dupont number as SP Daylight Red (not SP Scarlet).

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

Being a WM steam modeler, I miss Northeastdecals too!  If the could have stuck it out until shapeways came along I bet their business would be booming!  Good luck on your project!

I am not sure on availability but Micro Scale decal 60-937 is suitable for the FL-9.  Have you checked out the previous topic, several weeks ago, on powering this loco
using  F and SD bogies

Microscale has 150 sets in stock:

Hmm... I think I'll buy
80 or 90 of them...

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.

I have seen the Microscale decals.  They're not quite the same as the Northeast were.  Northeast included small triangular white and red shapes to halp form the paint-job on the nose. I'm a little lazy.......

Thanks for the lead on powering.  I'll check that out.

Can you share a photo or two of the shell? Are you happy with it?

Atlas SD7-9 china with Atlas GP 35 trucks from china work perfectly for this shell.

Not quite finished.... still a work in progress.  Got to figure out a way to snugly mount the SD-7 chassis inside the FL-9 shell.

She looks great Dick! Nice work. A couple of those FL9s are sitting in the town right next to mine in mid coast Maine. The Maine Eastern runs them.
