FVM Corrected NS Heritage Pennsy Shell

Last year I ordered a FVM NS Heritage Unit painted for the Pennsy. The first batch of these had the printing of "PENNSYLVANIA" of to far to the left. I contacted Matt at FVM and he said he would try to squeeze a new run of shells to replace the bad shells. Well, today I got the new shell and compared it to the old one:

Definitly an improvement. FVM also sent a handy guide on how to remove the shells:

While I was at it I decided to add DCC to the locomotive with a Digitrax DZ125IN:

Here is the lightboard and the DZ125IN:

The finished product:

Here is NS's official portait from their website:

Some notes on working with this locomotive:
 - The shell is a bit tricky to get off, I used a combination of a flathead screwdriver and gently rocking the shell
 - After removing the lightboard it did not go back in to the frame the whole way, I had to sand some of the shell down in order for it to fit
 - To install the DZ125IN, you have to flip the decoder upside from its normal position in order to align it properly

I am very pleased with FVM. They owned up to their mistake and fixed it. I look forward to doing more business with FVM.

Nice, my N&W had several paint errors and I've got a replacement shell due.  I also have a LV that I need to email Matt about.

What a coinky-dink.  Doing some work at our Barstow facility today and the Pennsy unit was in the outbound yard.  Long way from home.

Good of FVM to offer the corrected shell.

Mine came Tuesday.  Or Monday, the days are running together.  I was going to post pictures but I'm glad someone did. The shell looks really good and a big thanks to Matt and FVM for stepping up and making this right.  I'm really looking forward to the coming Ace Heritage units this year (though the wallet isn't).

Caught heading in to Barstow on Monday, with nary a pumpkin in sight:

You may also be able use the lid of the locomotive box.

I e-mailed Matt last week about sending back the incorrect shell, but I have yet to receive a response.

Wow!  :o That's awesome, thanks for posting this. Definitely quicker than the method I used.

FVM really does have the best customer service. When I received my CR unit, I ended up breaking one or two of the included detail parts, and FVM sent m a whole new packet no questions asked! Now if only they could fix those darned handrails!

The PRR unit is getting around - it was right here in Western NJ last week.
