Jason (Superturbine), I am completely gobsmacked by your ability to crank out custom N scale steamers. I mean completely! Honestly, I don't even know where to start with my slobbering praises. Picture Mike Meyers and Dana Andrews doing their "we're not worthy" thing here.

To the point - since you seem to be able to perform crazy downsizing magic on brass HO steamers, I was wondering if it would be possible to do an N scale version of a C&NW Class D 4-4-2 (of which there are at least a couple of HO versions). Vis -







As far as a chassis/mech goes - ugh, no ideas. But perhaps you might have some Aristotle-esque ideas there? Based on your achievements thus far I feel like I'm picking up a phone and talking to God, so please forgive me for imagining that all things are possible

In regards to the 4-4-2..... I like it!  LETS DO IT!

I don't think it would be too hard or require shrinking.. I think I have existing  parts and boilers which will work.  Also Jonathan Vincent built a Pennsy 4-4-2  (unless I am mistaken). 

So the fact is you are correct..... WE CAN DO ANYTHING!!

I thought this was being done with N scale brass locos. Didn't realize you could shrink them. I've heard of the process, but just didn't think it could be that accurate.

How many steps does it take to do a locomotive like this?

It is pretty accurate when you get the water/hydrospan formula down. Luckilly, the stuff is inexpensive enough to make several shots of the model. Chances are one will be good enough.

If it is that good, wow. I've seen vehicles done and just figured something like a boiler tube would end up deformed.

Ah, the 4-4-2 mech is a do-it-yourself slince'n'dice project on a Minitrix Pacific. Sounds like a very long term project.

Most projects take about 6 months to a year.  A majority of that time is used collecting the parts.  Once everything is acquired the engine can be built in a week or 2.  As for the mech I thought they had some to sell, its OK that they don't.  This is an engine worth building.
 Just so I know do you have an HO model? If not what do they cost?

I don't have one myself, but a quick scan of eBay shows that there are at least two HO brass versions floating around out there - Overland (went for $308) and Tenshodo (went for $200).

Of course, if a 4-6-2 -> 4-4-2 hack is too complicated, you could always eliminate the middleman and just do one of these instead. It's all good!

Reducing drivers is easy.... its hard adding them!  That's a cool engine, not too far off from my 49er!
