Gary, I keep telling you - it gets better all the time. You give people an assortment of buildings on which to test their modelling skills. Thank you.

Gary,
You have quite a few models that interest me. Mostly the more modern ones.
I am 3D printing almost all of the structures for my in-progress layout.
I was wondering...and please forgive me it this is a too cheeky ask...if it would be possible to get the sketchup .skp files for the models I am interested in so I can convert them to .stl files for 3D printing?

Sent you 4 skp files in the overview mode. Let me know if they work for you. You may want to consider the assembly or template views.

Has anyone built any of these projects lately? Has anyone had problems with the construction?

I used the "Simple House" template as the start of my Log Camp Logger's housing.
I created a Laser Cut file using LightBurn and cut the panels out of 0.050 Cardstock as my first prototype.
I laser etched the clapboard siding and the roof shingles, then added molded windows and a door.

After some modifications, I started on the actual structures, which I am cutting from 1/16" Basswood and 1/32" plywood. (I'll post photos when they are done).

Here is the cardstock prototype:

That's excellent. What machine do you have?

And welcome to the forum!

It’s the Two Trees TTS-55. It’s a 5.5w laser with air assist. I’m using 1/16” and 1/32” woods & plywoods for my projects, but it will cut quite a bit up to 4-5mm.

My layout is being built for Operations, so all my structures are “custom” sized to fit.

My layout is at

That's cheaper than I thought laser cutters were.  Tempting.

I had it in my cart for a month, then Amazon sent me a 12hr lightning deal, and I could not refuse!

Had I known how well it worked, I would have paid full price :)

A dealbreaker might be the 300mm square design space.  But the machine looks fairly portable.  Is it possible to use, say, a slidable 900 mm long board and then laser it in 300 mm increments? I have some two foot long brick warehouses I'd like to model one day.

Two trees has a 400x430 expansion https://amzn.to/3PTNxOA
And Usongshine has a 600x600 https://amzn.to/3M1vRyn

2 foot piece on a desktop laser is pretty big, but do a Google search on laser cameras. I’ve got a camera that I’m gonna be installing this weekend. I’ll give you the option to cut half flip it around cut the other half. The camera will let you anlign everything “perfectly” back to where you needed to so you can line it back up for the next cut.

It's crazy how inexpensive a small functional/easy to use laser system is now days...  At the price these small machines are going for, I'd buy one just to play with (and I say this as someone that already owns a 12" x 24" x 50W CO2 machine).

I'm amazed more modelers don't have laser cutters, CNC routers and 3D printers now days.  They're almost too cheap to ignore.  You just need CAD/3D CAD skills, which are more or less just time and practice.
