Joe,

Okay, I realize that this request is probably too limited for what you seek, and I doubt I'll ever see a mass-produced N scale model.  But, I'll try anyway, since it doesn't hurt to ask.  I'm looking for the Atlantic Coast Line ("ACL") M-5 caboose, which went to the successor roads, Seaboard Coast Line ("SCL") and Seaboard System ("SBD").  Other roads, such as the Clinchfield ("CRR"), the Columbia, Newberry and Laurens Railroad ("CNL"), and the Winston-Salem Southbound Ry. ("WSS"), also owned similar cabooses.

SCL: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1641344 and http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1926212
SBD: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1926213 and http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=616217
CRR: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=104724
CNL: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1434560
WSS: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1641345

Thanks,
DFF

That wouldn't bother me at all.  This caboose is to ACL/SCL fans what the Magor caboose is to C&O fans.  Atlas gave us that one, so there's always hope.

A new caboose from MT would be most welcome, but I'm not sure if they'll be interested.  Just recently, several manufacturers came out with new cabeese so I'm not sure that MT would be willing to jump on that bandwagon.

As far as the Keyser Vally caboose's success, sure it was successful' But it was one-off limited run custom-made model.  I didn't follow the Keyser  thread very closely so I don't know if the quantity manufactured was revealed. But it was probably in the hundreds. I suspect that MT might be searching for a new injection-molded styrene model which would be made in tens of thousands.  IMO, judging the caboose market by the success of Keyser Valley is a bit flawed.

I wasn't juding the success of the caboose market based on the Keyser Valley caboose; rather I was suggesting that there exists a well know manufacturer of eastern road prototype models who recently did a non-standard caboose model that sold well and was snapped up by a whole bunch of folks who don't model the Kesyer's prototypes - including me.  I am sure MTL wants something they can sell in quantity; likewise I'm sure ESM is looking for models if eastern prototypes that it can do justice to, and I think this qualifies as one.

Caboose are so particular to RRs that generic models don't cut it.  For instance, Bluford's Great Northern transfer caboose.  The prototype X178 was built on a VO1000 frame and ran on the unit's Baldwin trucks.  The Bluford model is, um, not adequate for the true GN fan.  There may not be enough of us for anyone to care, but that doesn't make the model any better of a representation.

IMO, while everyone wants injection molded versions of their road's cabeese, the vast selection makes caboose models better suited for etched brass or Shapeways makers where small runs with adequate proportion and detail can be had.
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

Please
make those 3 units heavy enough to run in bare table trains with Atlas/MTL/Trainworx/BLMA flats and Interail/Alan Curtis/Walthers/Kato well cars.  Reproducing OALAT circa 1984 is still a personal long term goal...

Two of the three ESM ready-to-run injection-molded models are Pennsy prototypes.  It may be a while before a third appears.  ;)

I cant wait to get my hands on the upcoming CB&Q X-58 boxcars!

Don't the G26 and XIH fit your criteria?

Yep.
My official cut-off is 1956. (although I tend to cling quite close to WWII and the initial post-war years)
I actually have a G26, but it is in Conrail (I bought it second-hand at a Greenberg show).
(Had it not been for TRW, I probably wouldn't know about ESM.)
It might seem odd for me to have it, but my tiny motive-power roster includes a CR patched Reading MP15-DC. Sold my NS one for $90 and turned around and bought the CR patched Reading for $60.

Soon.  Maybe a month early if the stars stay in alignment.

The Pennsy and Lehigh Valley schemes on the G26 are pre-1956 and still readily available.  There are three BAR/NH schemes on the XIH boxcar that are pre-1956, most of which remain available albeit in limited quantities.  A new road number on the 1950 Magor-built BAR State of Maine XIH is in the latest release that started hitting the stores this week.  So multiple schemes on two of the three ESM models that have been available for years fit your criteria.

There are plenty of CR schemes to do — you'll have to wait and see!  CR modelers will be very happy with the next release.
