This thread was worth it just to find out the Osgood-Bradley coaches, a single-window coach, and maybe some NH heavyweight cars are coming soon.  Add the reworked cars MTL troop car, WOT 70 baggage, and MTL RPO I get a halfway-decent NH secondary train behind the DL`109.
The round-roof end Pullmans will be a challenge - esp the coaches with two vestibules. I didn't want to have to scratchbuild each one so I've been experimenting. Fluted sides are tough to get right in N scale,  ESPECIALLY the very narrow fluting on the skirting. I don't have a metal-working mini-shop so I have to make do with cutting up car shells and adding various styrene pieces. I've cobbled up a first version and now I know what works and what doesn't want to make a decent-looking version. And to complicate things I want to build the cars on Kato underbodies and trucks, since they run so well, are easy to add lighting to, and Kato makes 41-BNO trucks. I suppose the best course would be buy COLA cars and sell off the shells.

This thread was worth it when Bryan posted his new ESM video showcasing his lastest batch of XIH boxcars.  This thread took a nosedive when it was hijacked and the spotlight was removed from those ultra-hot XIH's.

Hoping for the day Bryan gives up catering to marginal railroad interests and starts running with the big guys and do SP Prototypes.     Excellent work all around and I was able to rework the paint scheme  on his gondola to my home road...quite respectable.

Please....please.... ESM does a great service to modelers by modeling smaller; historic and storied Eastern roads.... they need not venture into the unseamly world of Espee..... there's no amount of pre applied rust, grime, dirt and overall weathering that would do justice to an Espee car anyway; every one whold have to be a Tom Mann special.... and besides, they already supply models (including that wonderful XIH V) of the true "world class big road".... the

Well the NH may be decently represented in N for about WW2 and later but like just about any other road try finding stuff for a 20s timeframe. Athearn was the only game in town with it's 36ft boxcars that can be hacked up enough to represent one of these



But they are out of production and butchering expensive MTL cars is just a bit out of my price range.

I will probably get a couple of these out of the  Athearn car as well.

Wont be anytime soon with my skill set. IIRC there are some shapeways trucks like these out there but I dont know how well they work. I would love some 36ft underframes and possibly some shorter ones to see what I could do, but that is a ways down the road.

But won't be visiting pre-1930 unfortunately, as there isn't enough demand in N to warrant it.

I suggest looking at the kits by Fine N Scale.  They have period-appropriate 36' boxcar models that are economical to kitbash to match New Haven prototypes, and they are better detailed than the Athearn/MDC, Arnold, or MTL models.
 
Southern Pacific?  Wasn't that some obscure western road that had half the passenger traffic volume that New Haven had?
