It sounded like a good idea at the time... too bad the caboose wasn't in on the plan.

Just for grins I "searched" Athearn for IN STOCK, NOT DISCONTINUED and guess what, I got nothing.
Can't model worth a darn, but can research like an SOB.

I'm probably gonna catch hell for this, but I've never cared for the look of these "wide cab" engines.

Man, those are nice units, just like the GP-38W's.  It's almost enough to make me switch to HO again.  I think every modern (post 70s) unit is now out in some form, even the porkchop ES44DCs.  Just need the porkchop dash 9 units and you have 100% CN goodness in HO...

What I'd give for the porkchop window ES44s and C44-9Ws in N scale.....

+1...  I've thought about it by taking the windshield from a SD70, 80 or 90, but the dimensions are not quite right, and it is a tough kitbash.  Maybe the great CN karma will continue and Fox Valley or Kato will do it.   Forget the -2 project, we want porkchops!

Are the 'porkchop' window panes on CN's SD70/75I's, C44-9W's and early ES44's not all the same dimensions? I recall that the reason the C44's were ordered with the teardrop (as I've always called them) to standardize parts inventory. I also think the crews liked the extra visibility of afforded by them, though not as likely to have been a reason for the use on the GE's.

It's just a myth they're the same shape, the angles and dimensions are a fair way off meaning one cannot be used in the other.

FWIW, I compared a Atlas GP40-2W to a Athearn GP38-2W (HO, of course) and, although the Atlas is a very nice model, the Athearn is clearly better. And it comes with Tsunami sound. Competition is a good thing, folks!

Except in the lighting department. Really wish Athearn would switch to LEDs already....  :RUEffinKiddingMe:
