N-scale Halliburton HWCX "Flatankhopper" on the drawing board

I have no ties other than it's a car I'm interested in, but thought some of you might be as well.  So, just a heads-up.

And yes, I just invented the word Flatankhopper  and have submitted it for registering with the appropriate agencies.      I was inspired by the car being referred to as a tank car, a flat car, and a covered hopper during my research.

Trying to distract myself...  If I remember correctly, these cars were actually built in the 60s, at least in some form.  I remember there being drawings in MR (or was it RMC).

TLCX 30 & 31 are the only other ones I know of, but they were leased to Halliburton.  These were built by P-S (for those whom the reporting mark didn't give that away), 08-1961, and were called 'Airjet's.  About the only real difference from the WNHX (now HWCX) cars that were built by Thrall (02-1961 IIRC) was that  had a motor and compressor at one end to offload the tank contents, making the car a self contained pnuematic covered hopper...

I remember seeing some of these cars about 15 miles north of Cadillac,Michigan about 20 years ago.I was told they were used for transporting drilling mud.Knowing nothing about the process I had no idea if I was being fed a line or if the info was correct.

I find the cars rather interesting but I have no use for them what so ever,.but I think it would bed neat to see them made.

OK, so the new word is Siloflatankenwagenhopper. 

I've seen these cars roam through over the years in North Texas and various places around the midwest.   They're pretty rare, (and normally solo, at least in my encounters) but by the same token they scream "OILFIELD" which is a predominant part of the economy where I model.   So I like that they help paint that picture a little bit.

Looks a bit like a JX series Pneumatic Cement HOPPER from down under.

Funny how each country/region influences each other.

Part of the similarity is that good engineering tends to converge to similar designs, even if the designers aren't trading ideas.  For a cement hopper, or drilling mud solids, one needs a car that can handle dense cargo and relatively high pressures, so a cylinder is ideal.  On  the other hand, high cubic capacity isn't needed, due to axle load limits, so individual tanks, which are stronger  than one long one, serve just fine.

Incidentally, the Europeans use both two and three tank standard gauge wagons, and the Swiss narrow gauges have single tank versions, so there's even more variety.  One can think of it as the original modular freight car - just add tanks to the load limit!
