Lou, might I suggest Archer HO or O scale weld lines? It would seem to be perfect for your needs.
If you want the tape, try an art supply store.It's probably labelled as "graphic chart tape".Comes at least down to 1/32";a couple $ for several hundred inches.I'm pretty sure I used to get it in 1/64" too.
I've used the graphics tape as tie-down bands, and it seems to be what you want. The only problem is that it eventually comes loose, at least on wood and paper surfaces. Elmer's glue under the load solves that, but you may need to use a suitable glue on yours as well.
I got mine off the bay - there are several vendors. They had several colors and widths - I ordered white @ 1/32"
I actually have a really nice tape I use for powder coat masking,it's a hard,green plastic,fairly thick,and cuts easily...
