Yes; the entire issue was that the model slid around for 3000 km. Had their been adequate interior protection (foam, paper etc...) the models would have been just fine. An easy fix for Central and I rather suspect that they rushed to get them sent out due to getting calls from guys like me saying "are they here yet".....

Mine arrived today and they were bubble wrapped in and out of the jewel cases. No damage whatsoever, so I suppose it was 4PM on a Friday of a long weekend that yours were packaged?

Now the Briggs NSC boxcar kit I also ordered is very warped, but I think it can be unwarped with some effort.

Also got a Puddy Pack in the mail today (Canad Post was busy, and to the mailman's credit, he knew the office was closed yesterday and held the mail). Thanks Pud, I owe you one! Maybe you'd like an enlargement of one of my Havelock Sub train shots? I've no shots of the Script, but plenty multi marked units on the line

I got a hold of Central Hobbies today; very sorry for what happened; simple "boo boo"... will replace whatever I want replaced, don't bother to send back the damaged ones, keep em they said.... Very nice customer service - nothing less than I'd expect from on the of best LHS in Canada....

I managed to fix all the sturrup damage so I really just have the one smashed end car - they'll replace that no sweat..........all is well in slab-ville !

The PGE stencil schemes for these cars featured red and black lettering and I have been having good success with laser printed decals lately, so I was planning to go that route for the PGE cars.  For BCOL 2114 in light green with white stencilling I was going to incorporate the white decals into my next custom decal sheet.

However, when I was in Central Hobbies on Saturday, they mentioned to me that they were looking into getting some ALPS decals run for these cars.  I will be watching to see what materializes and I provided some information with respect to car numbers vs. paint schemes, and logogram sizes.

Unfortunately some of the Briggs Miniboxes and NSC boxcars have warpage issues due to a certain batch of resin used.  I had this issue with a few of mine and I found that if you take the shell out of the package and store it in a cool, dry place for a week it will settle out.  If not then, try cutting some foamcore or other material to the correct interior width and store inside the shell for a while.

I also inserted some .040" styrene sheet across the car inside at two or three locations to kick out the sides.   Any remaining warpage should be corrected when you insert the roof.

Tim, its not the warpage on the walls that is an issue, its the frame. Uncorrected, it'll sit on it's trucks like a '64 Impala in a rap video... some wheels up and some down. I've twisted it the other way and corrected it for the most part, but will let it sit for a while as you suggest and see if it 'settles down'. I've at least one M420 with the same issue affecting the walkways, but I assume its repairable.

OK I haven't seen that.  Yes, I would let it sit for a while.  Another trick is to soak the shell in warm water, bend it back to what it should be, and then immerse it in cold water.  Then set it out to sit for a while.

Painting an all black slab side hopper is NOT the easiest thing to do... Thanks Tim for the "tape the sides" hint.... saved a big mess... BTW, do you know how much fun it is air brushing a hopper in your unheated garage when it's minus 13 degrees C out...? Anybody...?

No, I wouldn't know anything about that as we havn't really had a winter this year - beautiful sunshine all day yesetrday and I didn't need a jacket to walk bewtween buildings . . .

So; it's too clean... it's WAY, WAY, WAY to clean... maybe a builders photo...? Anyway; the first Gooderham slab side; 6 square hatch, early 1950 build - Canadian Pacific Railway...



I used a combination of CDS transfers, burnished on to decal paper and old Northeast decals to decorate this 6 hatch slab side. I've used the "as built" livery (not exactly breathtaking eh ?) and will proceed to weather this car "significantly"..... I followed Geoff's advice and cut down a plano 50' walkway and it works very well. I don't have 33" metal wheel sets so the stock MT's will have to do, as will the roller bearing trucks for now.....

This car's been a long time coming in n scale and now that it's here; it's a real treat to work on them !

I know mine will languish for some time, partly due to a lack of walkways, brake wheels and platforms, trucks and couplers. Guess my parts inventory is a little incomplete. Where did you get the Plano parts? CVR? I've lots of 70T BLMA trucks, though most of these cars had the Bettendorf trucks, but not all:

Suppose a late in life change or regulations changed. Was the Bettendorf banned from interchange at some point or was it the friction bearing?
