I'll investigate if the ACL class K7 gondola can be offered in the MIA Series economically.  No promises though.  In addition to cost ... it's contingent on acquiring engineering drawings, suitable OEM part availability, if it can be properly weighted, and if the model can be designed with a non-fishbelly option so that MEC can be included.

A consumer commitment of 50 pieces would increase the odds of it moving forward.

Did the MEC gons haul anything other than stone and range far off-line?  If so, I'm in for a pair.

I'm sticking my toe into VGN and have started scratchbuilding patterns for their low side gon and a battleship gon old school style...no RP.  Will post some shots when I get the parts together this weekend.

Aren't we at a point that a car that was owned by but one road is possible to make in plastic? The multiple road thing shouldn't be a problem anymore. If a manufacturer says that, thaen they are just saying "We're lazy." It's not a problem for FVM, not a problem for Rapido Trains, not a problem for Trainworxx, not a problem for BLMA...

Of course we will then complain about the price.

No, we're not.  The deciding factor is the number of schemes, not the number of roads.  The Milwaukee rib-side boxcars have a number of different schemes, and minor body variations do not add much to the tooling cost if done simultaneously.  The BLMA Top Gon and mechanical reefer, the FVM wagontop and bay window caboose, the ESM G26 gon and X58 boxcar, the Rapido passenger line - all have been released with multiple schemes and/or body variations, even if only one railroad has been represented.  "Lazyness" does not factor into the decision in any way.

It makes little sense to tool a low-side gondola, especially one that has few roads or schemes.  Gondolas in general don't sell as well as other body styles, for whatever reason.  I don't think it's too much to expect for those who want a model of a specific esoteric prototype to have to invest some time/effort in building and painting a kit, particularly one that isn't difficult.  Let's get the "model" back into Model Railroading.

I think those smaller companies can do limited road name cars because they are...small.  They don't have the employee/benifit/facilities overhead we or Atlas or Athern have.  If it were just me and a chinese factory, I could do shop built SP/ATSF/UP Cars and probably make enough to pay my wage and invest in more tooling just servicing West Coast Modelers. Heck, if Bryan can do it servicing the 5 Pennsy and 4 New Haven modelers out there, it should be easy for me  :D  But as a larger company the problem is more complex.  Not lazy, we just need to meet payroll every week.

I don't have it...

I found it , thanks again Chris , bashed from MP gons ( states MTL fixed end straight side gons could be used also ) model photos , and info for N&W , Seaboard , and Southern . Has a ref to RMC May 1989 for drawings and lots of proto photos . I don't have old RMC mags . Still holding out for ESM and MTL to fill this gap .

Edit , just got the RMC edition on eBay coming my way .
