Wasn't there a gon which looked alot like the low sided made back in the 70s?

Also, I'v seen photos of the southern rr gons hauling pine stumps which I think were used to manufacture turpintine.

Joe, Is that drawing a MEC car?

I think the main difference is the sill. ACL had a fishbelly frame.

Also the wood vs. steel floor as Bryan noted.

One issue could be the brake wheels.  The MEC has a vertical wheel and the ACL has a horizontal.  The ACL cars were rebuilt with vertical wheels, but the ends may have changed at the same time.

I think both the MEC and ACL cars were refitted with Dreadnaught ends, but that would have to be confirmed.

The MTL diecast fishbelly centersill component used on the wood reefers and boxcars would be included, which would help add some weight as well as give the option of which car to build.

That would be nice, but I don't think so.

Freigth car class sheet on MEC shows a vertical brake wheel, references Ajax as suppler adn the drawing shows a rib across the end. A 1974 photo in the Northern New England color guide shows a horizontal brake wheel on #17019 and it looks like the reinforcing rib is Riveted to the end of the car. Page 53 of the book, there is also a nice paragraph there specifying the rebuilds to pulpwood cars and a series of 7 cars that had an 8' section of the side of the car fitted with a removable gate for loading with a front end loader.

If not then it lessens the chances of this happening.

Info on the N&W g1
http://www.nwhs.org/archivesdb/selectdocs.php?index=rs&id=71

We can remove the N&W gons from this discussion I guess, the inner length on the G1 is 46'

The 2 cars look similar enough for me:

Just make the brake detail separate.
