It wan't be a true NS model unless the ditch lights flash on the wrong end when the horn blows.
Your layouts nice, but it needs more Conrail !

It was the HC1 that was a direct copy of the PRR H30 class, the HC2 was slightly modified. (but I can't see what the changes are from photos, perhaps someone with more info can chime in?)

The HC2 had minor changes but I'm not sure what they are off hand:

Built 1942 IIRC.

Also seem to remember an N&WHS article on these hoppers, will try to dig up.

Note the couplers

FVM doesn't make it a habit of worrying about underframe detailing and uses the same 50' underframe on all the boxcars.  While the extended draft gear part would be nice, hopefully the price will reflect the savings in tooling.

The bracing under the end slopes was different... possibly the bolster too, but I've never bothered to look at the drawings...

Just missing those pesky marker lights for the DPU units....(88xx numbered Iso cab M-2s)

These have that higher mounted headlight and taller grill I was talking about earlier as well...

Eh? 8000 numbered CN SD70M-2s don't have DPU and thus no markers (they are also the first SD70M-2s CN bought and have the high headlights, non isolated cabs, etc). 8800 and onwards numbered SD70M-2s have DPU fitted and thus markers and feature the nose or low mounted headlights, non isolated and isolated cabs, etc).

CN numbers all locomotives with DPU with the same digit in the first two spots (i.e 2200 C44-9Ws), the exception to this rule is the 5500 numbered SD50Fs. All CN DPU equipped locomotives have the red marker lights whether it be the body mounted ones or the single marker light mounted on a ditchlight on each end.

And the most obvious is the vent/grill on the rear end of the inverter (not sure what it'd be called on the M-2) cabinet and the dynamic brake grills, the 'mesh' style of the 8000s or slats/louvers version on the 8800s.

Kinda funny I know all this when I'm not even a CN fan....

Eh?

That's what I was talking about... the rear of the unit

Cheers for the clarification, makes sense now! The higher rear headlight would actually be easier to get away with than the lower headlight, I mean who really looks at the rear all the time?

Ah so! It's all Railwire's fault that I'm noticing this stuff  8). More incentive for me to come up with my own solution.

Wow, it blows my mind how many detail variations this one variety of engine has.

I'm glad I'm stuck in the 80s...

And even more annoyingly Ed, the RR's also like to tinker with them after they get them....CN has recently started fitting the 8000 number series SD70M-2s with DPU equipment and adding the single marker on top of a ditchlight at each end.

Yes, but FVM has done the heavy lifting here.  Minor details that are RR specific are no biggies compared to the major kitbashing needed to do one of these from a Kato unit.

This news makes modern offerings in n scale almost complete, just a few minor models to deal with, like the other "-2" model  :ashat:

Minor depends on how you look at it  :P

But you're quite correct there, Kato had a chance to do all this and corner the market but just simply haven't....there's no real logic to their business decisions that's for sure.

Now that I know the Southern sliversides gondola was first made in 1960 will need at least one. Also need the B&O caboose and PRR H-30 hoppers also. Need to keep up when they arrive.
