Small steps forward on a number of current projects.

On my turnout test bed, I have laid the track:

and connected the feeder wires to a pair of bus wires:

My three M-630s now have their inertial filter housings glued to the carbodies, and the carbodies glued to the decks:

My Minibox power car conversion now has the side inserts installed:

I also assembled a GHQ front end loader which will be carried on a flatcar for work service:

The loader comes with alternate pairs of arms for positioning the bucket all the way up or all the way down, but the BCR typically carried their front end loaders with the bucket halfway up to clear the steel ramp also carried on the car.  To achieve this I had to modify the arms.  I also assembled a GHQ log loader and bulldozer which will ultimately be used at my Canfor mill in Chetwynd.

Finally, I had the opportunity to try out some samples of the CP passenger trucks intended for the Geoff Gooderham kits:

I have been working on the backdrop and lighting for the Beer Line. I turned the lights on tonight for the first time. Still to be added is the vertical valance to finish the look and cover the direct view of the lights. More details in the layout engineering report. https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=24044.75

Best wishes, Dave

Tim: Are those passenger trucks the one that are available from Shapeways ? If so, how do they perform and if not, who's are they ?

Thanks !
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

Nearly done with Vampire Villa, home to Baron Bituminous, descendant of Count Anthracite.
Since my layout will be set in October, I decided to have a little of fun.

Bryan, I have to ask. Did you even read the instructions after the first page or did you go by the photos. The instructions I have for this model are by far the worst (you are officially off the hook, Worcester Union Station) I have ever seen.

Oh, and I would love to see photos of your finished model.

Dan,

It's been a while, as I bought and built mine when they first came out back around 1990.  I remember I read through the instructions a few times before starting and decided to just do one step a night so I didn't get frustrated.  The instructions said it would take six hours if I remember correctly, and it took me close to 20.  I also felt that the brass handrails would not withstand the constant handling of transport to and from the local club I belonged to at the time, so I used steel wire instead.

Here's a quick pic of mine from my personal website:

If I were to build a second one, I'd replace all the pewter hydraulics with brass or aluminum tubing, so that I could possibly automate it down the road and feel comfortable that the parts would not wear out.  Mine is a static model.  The hydraulics work, but I try not to reposition the parts too much when I do move it.

Sorta finished the other L1s I was working on. My hands shake a lot and I can't hardly see those small parts so a lot of details were left off. I was hoping I could do better...

How`d you blacken the running gear?
I have another one to build and I`m hoping to add more of the piping and handrails to it this time
I don`t think you did bad all good work!

Almost done with my B&M 640 U30C. Still need to finish the number boards and couplers as well as a few touch ups here and there.

I got one of these about 10 years ago and it`s still mint in box.. I applaud you guys for the effort..

NO modelling this weekend.  Spent most of it driving around looking for a new basement (and a decent basement cover) within driving distance of the new jawb.  Depending on what's still on the market when we get this place cleaned up, it looks like Culpeper, Remington, or Charles Town WV.
Once we get moved in I'll start an engineering thread for the planning and build.
Can't model worth a darn, but can research like an SOB.

Great modeling again this week - -really love those CP units Pud!

No modeling per se by me, but finished up the industry cards for the last section of layout (track was completed a couple of weeks ago).  The last things needed (at least, the last things I think are needed) for the initial op session are to create a track diagram for each of the four towns and a 'job description' card so the visitor has a chance to know what is going on.  If things go as planned, this layout can support two operators (besides me acting as Chief Cook and Bottle Washer).

Finally added some green stuff and dirt to cover the vast expanse of brown paint on the left side of my layout.

Hope to get some ballasting done this week, after more soldering track and wire drops.  Have fire up the airbrush and paint that portal, too.

Pud:  Yes, although the samples I received came from the designer via Mark Peterson.  There are some fit issues to resolve but they look like they will perform nicely once everything is worked out.

The arrival of DKS's Cat crawlers inspired me to do the first modeling of any kind since...well, at all this Winter...
