LED lampposts

I am at a point where I need street lampposts and was looking at several on the bay.  I am particularly interested in the lampposts with LEDs rather than incandescent bulbs.

I was wondering if anyone has purchased them, and if so, your opinion.

Thanks
Jim

The 7cm, T90, scales out to just under 37' tall... about right for N scale highways. The 35mm ones would only be 18'6", so, a bit short for most applications. There is also a 5cm version... 26'6"... which might "look" more appropriate given our tendency to compression.

Thank for the review, David. I'd been searching for just such a critique on these... my order will be going in shortly!

David,

Thanks for the review - it really helped.  I was actually looking at the T93 and T90 + a couple of the more decorative lampposts for side streets.

Your review really helped and I think that LED posts are the only way to go...

Again thanks

Jim

One of these days (once I find that round tuit), I am planning on writing a magazine article about scratchbuilding modern street lamps which are close to scale.  They are fairly easy to produce and inexpensive.  I know that they seem to somewhat resemble a SciFi object, but on a layout they look fine.  :D

Depending on your era or location, these might be of interest to you.  Not as inexpensive as DKS's suggestion, but definitely more character.

peteski,

Hope you have a chance to get round tuit some day soon. That's a mighty nice looking modern light post of which I plan to need a few for a city scene.

Ignore those Martian detractors -  LOL.

Thanks Charlie!  Hopefully, it'll happen sometime this year.

Amazing under such high magnification how rough the paint looks!  Even paint affects surface quality in N Scale.  I love that lamp peteski and remember the pic from the Atlas forum.

I wasn't offended - I actually found it humorous myself.  ;)

Lemosteam: I agree that the paint is too rough (but this is not visible under normal viewing conditions). It was a mixture of Floquil old silver and gray with some glaze added (to make it less flat), but I obviously didn't add enough glaze.  Next time I make these, the paint surface will be much smoother.

Peteki,

Not criticizing, it just made me think of how much simple paint can affect our scale, washing out detail, increasing texture, etc.
