After much comparing...
I decided to reduce the boiler length to properly fit the mechanism.  The firebox did not proper cover the last driver and the cab was behind the trailing truck instead of more above it.  So I decided the best place to remove boiler length was between the steam dome and the cab.  Luckily the boiler in between this area has zero change in diameter.  After cutting and re-securing the boiler sections the walkways were cut and reshaped and reinstalled.    You can see hear roughly the amount of material removed from the boiler.

Joint is right at a boiler band.  I think the boiler band just ahead of the splice will be removed. The splice location right at the boiler band to hind the splice.  So what you are seeing is mostly boiler band not a horrible splice job.  Flaws to the side of the sand dome will be cover by sanding pipes and sanding pipe cover. Still much work to go on the boiler.... Primer helps identify flaws.

Great, Jason!   Are those cooler lines under the walkway the original ones or did you put hangers and wire under there?
They look very good, nice and light, with air between the pipes.

Hey thanks guys,

Of note: the sand dome was changed out at the last minute.  I had copid the MTH HO scale sand dome using the squish mold and then shrank the casting.........  of course &@/!$!$@^#&!!!!  MTH had the sand dome wrong.  So I had to change out the dome and redo all of the sanding pipes.  Ive no gotten severl casting out and thwy are comming out pretty good so I should have a body on the mech in the next few days.

Max those are the stock pipes running under the boards..... but there was a small flaw in the mold on the pipes so there are going to be cut off and rerun with GMM pipe hangers.

1st casting.... sanding pipes did not come out as well as I had hoped.  But overall I think I will be happy.

With only one sanding pipe broken, you must have figured out the delicate mold removal. You're right, the joint in the boiler looks fine now. Sharp looking work (AGAIN) Jason.

Jason -
RE: the casting resin you are using, how much shrinkage are you experiencing in %'s?  Is that specified on the product you are using?
