Unfortunately, the two modern schemes should have wider doors.  FVM faked it by painting part of the sides, but actually changing the door would be a pain.

As for the passenger scheme, I've never seen a picture of one, but won't say it didn't exist.  Does anyone have such a picture?

When this model was first announced I asked Matt if he was doing a correct wider door for the yellow band scheme. He said no. I hope he has changed his mind. I think that the passenger scheme express car should have a shorter door but I am out of town and away from my references. I am a big supporter of FVM but the idea of painting a wider door instead of tooling it would be odd. Just think if MTL did this!

Love FVM in general but I've got to agree with others, this is more egregious than shallow tooling on door stiffeners.

I dunno... the FVM car is correct for one version of the prototype.  The MTL car is not correct for any version of a prototype. 

This is a bit of a stretch from FVM to get more paint schemes and sales on a very unique prototype car that was built for a single railroad.  But I've never faulted foobie schemes on good tooling, as long as the correct schemes are offered first.

Operating with the CMStP&P's full-length mail and express cars, Milwaukee also had a fleet of shorter express-type boxcars. Similar to freight equipment in appearance, these 50-foot horizontal-ribbed cars were equipped with high-speed trucks, steam and signal lines and a modified brake system. Operating in passenger service, Nos. 1600-1624 were painted in Milwaukee's traditional orange-and-maroon colors. After 1955, some received the Union Pacific's Armour Yellow and Harbor Mist Gray scheme. During the '60's additional 50-foot express boxes were used. Having roller bearing trucks and equipped for passenger service, these cars were painted Boxcar Red with yellow doors, white lettering and stenciled EXPRESS.

When the 40-footers were first announced I started bugging Matt for 50-footers.  He said no.  I believe he can be persuaded to model the correct door width; if we all bug him...  starting now.

IMO, it'll kind of be too late once these are released unless he re-tools the doors prior to the release.

Express discontent and he just might stop and do it.  Otherwise, he'll do the wrong thing and we'll all have to put up with it.
