They are the first N scale caboose kits from AMB.

You GN and NKP fans please buy alot of these so they release the roads I want (CGW, MStL) faster.

Check out the updated GN pics, looks good.

And I was just thinking of getting the one on shapeways, my guess is wood will look much better. Maybe I can have it in time to go with the RS3s due next year, or whenever atlas actualy gets them out.

Your layouts nice, but it needs more Conrail !

Wow,now I'm confused.I kinda got to a point where I really didn't need more locos, one more was just"one more",so I'm starting to build cabooses and oddball railroad specific MOW stuff..Wonder exactly what they're gonna make? Right off the bat,I'd kill for 2-3 each of the LV wood hacks they make in HO.I was gonna start working on an NKP this weekend.Guess I'll hold off on that one,LOL!!

Really? That's cool - for years I've been trying to get them to release Kit No. 864 - Norfolk & Western Class CF Caboose in N scale, so maybe there's hope!

For oh so long there's been N&W steamers (Y3, Y6b) but no cabooses (except in brass).

"What do the Great Northern and the Nickle Plate have in common?"
Track gauge.

Northwest humor - the SP&S used to have billboards saying something to the effect that other roads may be longer, but the SP&S track was just as wide.

I was about to type "They both got swallowed up by another road that got merged into another road."
Can't model worth a darn, but can research like an SOB.

Oh.  I was going to say that they both interchanged with CB&Q.
I guess I just said that anyway, huh?

Unfortunately, the SP&S never directly interchanged with the CB&Q.  However, they were both owned by the GN and NP, so were corporate siblings.

Stories along this line have been spread through the years in various forms... it is questionable as to what the origin is given that so many "historians" claim that it involved their own road.

I'll be in for two NKPs. That will leave me with a total of six NKP 1000-series cabooses (these, a kitbash, and three Shapeways). I never thought I'd see the day...I thought I'd have to painstakingly kitbash a couple of MTLs into passable 1000s and call it a day. Now I'll be able to get those 700-series cabooses off my Fort Wayne Division main!

Kind of like the term "Pig Palace", which derives from the "Palace Stock Cars", which were CB&Q class SM-6 or SM-7.
The reference is Burlington Bulletin No. 25., "Stock Cars and Livestock Traffic", pp.56-57.

I know the SP&S had at least one such billboard, as I saw it in the Portland area in the late 60s.  Whether the idea was original with them or not I have no idea.  Or, for that matter, why they would be advertising on billboards, although apparently railroads nationwide used to do that.  Passenger ads, yes, but it seems that most shippers would go by a map rather than billboards.

I just ordered 3 of the GN cabeese, I'll let the Wire know what they are like when I recieve the kits.  One will GN, one SP&S and the third will be the Spokane International.  These other roads all purchased these cabooses from the GN in the 1940's.
