Cisco Bridges: a new layout concept

Not much progress as life has been busy.  Experimenting with distant trees (but not very happy with the results). 

I made up a video today and included some sound effects to set the scene.  Still working on this and getting a convincing background river sound.  Enjoy!

Thanks both, progress has slowed considerably, but still inching forward.  Those background trees are an experiment with bumpy chenille, but now that I am used to the wire bottle brush trees in the foreground, the chenille trees just look like dark blobs.  I'll keep making wire trees and work on a few projects going forward until I shut it down for the summer.  That BC Rail 8-40CM is nearing completion and I have some other projects to fiddle with.

What is nice is the trains are operating reliably and I can just leave them running while I do other things.

I've been experimenting with sound effects as part of making videos.  It is remarkable how different the experience is with a soundtrack and how "naked" the video is without sound.  What I am aiming for is the ambiance of the prototype, with the massive river as a background and the curves on the line giving a piercing squeal as trains pass.  In some ways, the locomotive noise takes second position to these sounds.

Here is a short clip where the sounds are much closer to what I am aiming for.

I agree the ambient noise of the train after the engine has past by is goal of mine for live ops. Given the length of a train exact sound placement is not critical, so the idea of a sound car or two might work. (if the train's rolling stock allows it)

In a last minute packing frenzy, I covered all the trains in the yard with sheets in mid-May and headed north for a few months.  Aside from missing some exciting threads about K4's on TRW, I have done absolutely nothing on the layout since the last tree was planted in May...

I did manage to draft up revised bridge handrails for etching so that might get me going again.  Hopefully there will be some progress to show soon.

The helicopter flying over bit, the riverbed is dry.  And I thought Canadian's had a sense of humor...

I managed to get into the layout room and clean everything up for operation after a summer away for work.  The last of the trees I had made were installed, and I finally secured a source for magnets so I could use my newly-painted containers.  It is starting to look like a more prototypical mix of sea cans and I have some more I decalled this morning.

Everything ran well so I figured it was time for pictures.  Curiously, my camera now has a lazy focus 'eye' and it takes some trickery to make it work, so it seems that shots are not the sharpest.





There is a list of things I need to do to finish this scene and move on to the rest of the layout, but it is fun to just watch trains roll over the bridge.
