I refuse to miss out on this run of the NW2, where can I reserve on without giving my credit card info.

MB Klien used to have a deal where they would email you the date an item would show up on their website.  Do they still do that?  If they don't you can't preorder there anyway so you have to watch their new product listing and order away.

Thanks it looks like they still have that service.

Thanks it looks like they still have that service.

Glad to help.  I have used it in the past and it worked well.  Get the email and they tell you the date and the time the item will go live on their site.

I reserve most of my stuff at BLW and sometimes at the N Scale Division.  MBK's email might be fine but you aren't guaranteed to get the item (as you have to order it yourself, hoping that there are still some left).

The key to the question was where you can go and not give your credit card info.  Short of a local hobby shop MBK is the only place I know of where you can come close to doing it automated.  I have no experience calling a random shop and asking them to reserve an item for me without holding with a credit card.  I like BLW for my pre-orders and MBK for my in stock orders.  I used to go with Wig-Wag for my pre-orders but there website(s) got a little too much for me.  I never had any real service issues with them.

With MBK I seem to remember waiting up until after midnight for the item to show up on their website to buy it.  If it is that important you won't mind trading a couple hours of sleep ;)

My choice is Chuck at Feather River Trains.  The local hobby shops are strictly CSX/NS/CR, and I model the BN, so a western shop works better for me.

Have to second the mention of Fifer's hobbies. Mike and Robin run a very tight ship, and keep excellent track of orders and pre-orders.

What's the difference?  If I reserve from BLW (or N scale Division) then I do provide them my credit card number, but they do not charge for the item until it ships. Either of the companies (even MBK) will eventually have your credit card info. Does it matter whether they have it on the day you purchase or few months ahead of that time?
