Does anybody know if the the Bachmann Doodlebug is new tooling and how it runs?  With a MSRP of $250 I am hoping that it is not just because they added a decoder and LED lighting.

While they may have upgraded the chassis the body shell appears to be the same as the older cars.  :| :?  Really wish that they had upgraded the detail... would have been much better if they had.

New decoder-equipped lightboard, new motor, and a new coupler on the back. Also includes a trailer/coach with interior detailing/lighting. Everything else is pretty much the same as the first release, although it does run a hell of a lot quieter. More info here -

MSRP is pretty much meaningless since they are readily available for $150.

I bought both of my older ones for $15 each and they both run great.

For some reason I like the "grind and burble" of my first run unit....kinda seems right for some reason.......

I have one of the early runs and one of the new. The early run is a POS. It is noisy, grindy, wobbles, and is generally unpleasant to run. The new one runs much smoother. Mechanically they are very similar, including the same power truck, but the materials are different and the newer version runs much better. Be sure to check the screws holding the power truck halves together. When new they were too tight and it ran very stiff. About a quarter turn looser on all the screws made a night and day difference in how the new one ran.
