Simple Windows?

62"?!  The 2509 windows are 38.4" tall.  All you have to do is cut the 2 very thin vertical muttons.
If you don't want the fancy frames just install them from the inside or simply sand the frame edges down.
Here are dimensions of some of the Tichy residential windows. Multiply by 160 to get their 1:1 size in inches.

I'm looking at a package of #2509's. It says 30" wide x 62" high. Anyway, *I* say they're too big for what I want. You going to argue that?? Sheesh.

How about taking the windows from the Walthers kit that you like and pressing them into some modeling clay and then a using SmoothOn casting kit to get the windows you want. You could bang out quite a few with their 15min set up time kit. Port it in to the indent in the modeling clay and then put a piece of glass over it to create a smooth back.

That is why I took the ones I have out of the package, scanned them and measured them myself. There is such a thing as typographical error.

I need two different sizes/shapes of windows for this particular house, and as I posted previously I think I have them covered now - Grandt 8005 (with most of the muntins removed) and Rix 8101.

I was hoping for some off-the-shelf two-pane windows for the whole thing (since removing muntins is tedious, and in my hands often yields less than optimal results), but that doesn't seem to be an option (not without straying away from my preferred styrene anyway).

OK, so Mark, I know where you're coming from.  And I have an enormous scrapbox of old kit windows to dig through.  And even some photoengraved ones.  And none of them are exactly 'right'.

This problem really started on commercial storefront windows because nobody does those either, and every one is different.

Reluctantly, I decided to try my hand at simple windows using Evergreen strip and just gluing them around the opening.  Made a template, cut the hole in the Evergreen styrene sheet, filed it square.  Glued on the .010x.020 or .010x.030 stock (just get an assortment of that stuff, and pick what looks right to you) and cut to length with an exacto and tweezers.   You'll screw it up the first couple times, but it will grow on you.

After a while it got pretty easy.  I figure in all the time I spend searching, waiting, and trimming and cursing, I can simply make the simple windows I want and move on and get it done.  It's not that hard to do a modern two-pane window, it's only five pieces of stock.   I'm comfortable casting, too, but this is just easier and gets better results.

Works particularly well when you are trying to 'inset' the window in a thicker wall like masonery or similar.

I have nothing against using castings, just that my patience on finding the 'right one' is in inverse proportion to the simplicity of just cutting up strip stock!

This entire building (Flagstaff Chamber/Visitors center) ended up without a single window casting in it.  All styrene.

That's an awesome piece of modeling Randy, I think maybe I'll just send you the photos of the house I want to build and let you do it for me 

Seriously though, I have occasionally considered building my own window frames; but so far it hasn't come to that as I've been able to make do with "close enough" (or "slightly modified") off-the-shelf windows. Frankly, I have just one hell of a time fabricating things that all have to be spot-on matches of each other, and the thought of trying to make a dozen windows that all have to be exactly the same size and shape sounds like an easy way to turn a breezy two-week project into a tedious three-month slog. And at the end of the day, this whole modeling thing is supposed to be fun, right?

Railhead super details made the window and door frames on this scratch built general store.
They are brass.   I do not know if anyone bought the company, only know I cannot find them.
I preferred them to styrene in my limited scratch building experience.
This is my attempt to capture my family's general store.

I did the scratch build from memory and then found this photo later. My model used double screen doors at the entrance which pre-dated the photo.
