Simple Windows?

Does anybody know where I can find some simple double-pane windows? Y'know, like the kind found on pretty much every house in the US?



Tichy and Grandt have all sorts of large/fancy windows, but nothing really basic like the above (not that I've been able to find, anyway). I was thinking maybe the doll house modeling world, but I don't know if they use anything suitable for N scale. Any suggestions?

The Atlas signal tower uses simple double hung type windows, of course, you'd be paying for the whole kit just to get the windows, but if you're scratching a lot of house structures, it might be worth considering the Atlas line of house kits, if for nothing else, nice period windows.

Another item that is quite useful for scratch building is the Silhouette cutter, as you could cut simple window shapes, like the ones you're looking for, out of thin styrene.

Grandt Line does have them: Just cut out the panes you dont need.

At 62", the Tichy windows are way too tall. I do have the Grandt windows and will use them if I can't find anything else. Just looking for some other less kludgy options. I really like the 4-pane windows that come with the Walthers "Valley Growers" elevator and wish I could find some more like that.

Mark try making castings of those. Should be pretty straight forward.

Have you looked at any of the generic parts from Pikestuff? I think pretty much all the doors and windows in their kits are available separately. Unfortunately they don't have pictures on their website, but I think modeltrainstuff.com has good pictures of all of it.

I have made some windows using the Silhouette cutter. I apply vinyl tape to clear styrene and cut out the window panes. Here are some examples:

As you can see, this just produces the pane and muntins, not the outer frame.  I would be happy to knock some of these out for you if you would like. I love your scratch building efforts and would be happy to contribute.  PM some dimensions if interested.

Thanks, Kyle. The Rix windows look like they're sized differently from any of the Grandt or Tichy windows. I can definitely think of a few places I could use them.

Thanks, David. These look promising, although my preference would be for styrene. I like having the window and frame all in one piece, and with the window proper recessed from the frame (that way the opening in the wall doesn't have to be spot-on perfect - a feat I don't accomplish very often).

Thanks, Pete. The Micronart stuff looks promising, but once again my preference would be for styrene. As for Tichy, I have all of their various windows and none of them really work for what I want to do.

I think between the Rix windows and some de-muntinized Grandts I should be able to get where I need to go.

62"?!  The 2509 windows are 38.4" tall.  All you have to do is cut the 2 very thin vertical muttons.
If you don't want the fancy frames just install them from the inside or simply sand the frame edges down.
Here are dimensions of some of the Tichy residential windows. Multiply by 160 to get their 1:1 size in inches.

Period Minitures has some cast metal frames like that (except they are a little "clunky" scale-wise
and reguire allot of grinding down to look real good,  imo).
