Lyn St. Laurent's article 4/4/40 on SP's Coast Line
is certainly an excellent example of how much great scenery
can be captured in a 10' 6" by 8' 10" space.
When I looked at the photos in the article, I thought this was in an area 2 or 3 times larger.
It is certainly encouragment for those modellers who love to see their trains operating in the country side.

Hey Roger,
I had the pleasure to visit Lyn last month and run on his layout. Rail height is 55+ inches, so it is indeed "in your face" (as N scale should be).
I've known Lyn for 20 years as we share the same passion for the "homeroad" (SP). Seeing it in person and running is a real treat.

Lyn models specifically the "Guadalupe" Subdivision of SP's Coast Div. I model the Sub railroad West of that, which is the "Santa Margarita" Sub. Two of the "signature scenes" of Lyn's is the Gaviota trestle and the Surf depot (near the water, hence the name). When you get into "my" territory, it's around San Luis Obispo, and includes "Cuesta" (2.2% grade) , the Horseshoe Curve and Stenner Creek trestle. If you've ever seen the Tom Dill book, "SP's Scenic Coastline, a color pictorial", the scene in NSR of the Surf depot, siding, etc. IS the cover of Dill's book. I realize you model the B&O, so some of the names and locales may be a bit "foreign". As for the overall size, yes looks can be deceiving.

Perhaps I did not experience my point clearly.  I am very impressed by the layout and how well so much n-scale scenery was captured in the layout.
It should an inspiration to other n-scale modeller who are limited to a spare bedroom as the area for their dream layout.

In my situation, I model the midwest, primarily Illinois, but I have not attempted to capture any specific area except for the main street in my home village.  The remainder is fictional.
