Help me build this Entry Gate

I need some help building the entry gate below for my Intermodal facility and need some help. What would you say is the length of the blue corrugated roof section above the toll booths, I think I can handle the rest of the dimensions thanks.

I take it you don't physically have it (since you can't measure it yourself), and you aren't talking to the person who built it (or you would ask them to measure it).

Assuming the lanes are 10-12 feet wide (so semis don't bark their shins on the way through), and the gatehouses are about 3-4 feet wide, I'd guess that each bay is in the neighborhood of 15 scale feet wide. Add a couple of feet at either end of the roof for overhang past the pillars, and I'd say 50 scale feet overall would be a good ballpark estimate.

You might also be able to find real-world examples and scale off of them. For example, here's a toll plaza south of Baltimore, which (since it has gatehouses and truck-accessible lanes) might be useful as a reference:

Another way to figure it, and the one I'd probably use, is to build the booths first, then calculate from there.  As Zox said, the lanes are probably 10 to 12 feet wide, so the only real variable is the booths, and that will depend on how you build them.

help me understand.  Stop signs before reaching the 'toll booth'?  Why are there three lanes with only two toll booth stations?  My experiece tends to be the West and South where these are far less grand with only a thin tin roof as sun/rain protection and may not even have toll booth enclosures...

2 Right lanes are entrances (gates past check point booths). One left lane is exit (gate on this side, that is automatic opening based on pressure plate).

Question.  Do the drivers have to pay to enter the facility?  It's intermodal and I would think they would only have to show their manifest papers, etc to enter.

If I were gonna build something like this,the only correct way is to start with the actual vehicles and people and other details that will use it.Get a container rig,plop it on the ground,and mock up the roof out of cardboard at a height that looks right,Then,do the same with the booths based on the doors/windows you'd use.After you get a dimension on the booths,figure out how wide you want the lanes,once again based on the truck itself..

Figure the lanes at 12 feet. That's almost the standard for many years for trucks.

Page 64 of MR`s Guide to Intermodal Equipment and Operations has the diagram for this very model. The booths are  8 long by 5 wide and 10 tall  the canopy is 61 x 36 x 4. The base it`s built on is  70 x 58 and the posts that hold up the canopy are 20. All dimensions are given in feet.

No, Im not planning on doing the building I think I have a small two floor building that'll go perfect with the gates. I may try and pick up that book too since Im leaning towards Intermodal things.

Considered adding the beams inside the overhead?  Aeiral map just about any gas station to see what I mean.  Can't wait to see it in context...
