New Walthers 0-8-0 run announced

The Walthers website has a new run of the 0-8-0 announced, both regular DC and DCC.  Also, the ad states that all of the drivers will be geared drivers.

It will be interesting to see if there are any other changes between this run and the 2nd run.

Waitaminnit, what announcement are you referencing? BLW lists new 0-8-0's, but as near as I can tell none of them come with decoders. Also, the Walthers/Life-Like 0-8-0 has had all of the drivers geared since the very first release

I keep lobbying them to make those tenders available separately but unless hundreds of N scalers also contact them with the same request (and when pigs start flying), that ain't going to happen!  Come on people, start your write-in or phone-in or email-in campaign to get those tenders!

Both runs were mechanically the same. The second run ran better because of better assembly proceedures. They learned from the first batch what to watch out for after we disected them on the forums and fine tuned their production.

The things to do to a first run loco included fine tuning the tender pickups as mentioned, bending the wires coming out of the tender harness down at about a 15 degree angle and then removing some nubs from the drawbar that the wires would interfere on.

My first run loco out of the box would pull a half dozen cars on level. My second run would pull 15 on level. After fine tuning and replacing the zinc weight in the boiler and adding a little more with lead, they both would pull 16 up a 2% grade.
