So help me out here. In today's day and age, how difficult is it to have a GPS transponder on the locomotive and another one on the FRED that report back to a central dispatch computer. If one train is approaching another one on the same track software should easily be able to flag it, send an alarm to dispatch and another radio alarm to the locomotive engineers on both trains.
This seems like basic crap that would be easy to do, especially considering the amount of money and cargo (especially HAZMAT) we're talking about.
