WS static grass..

I tried out my static grass applicator this weekend, the flyswatter version.

Is the WS a little shiny, or is it just me??



it looks a little "plasticy" for my taste.   I may have to invest in an applicator with more umph.. a lot of the grass is still lying down. I tried to get nice and close to make them stand up, but kept getting the 'ol ZAP.

I might suggest mixing similar colors to create some natural variation. Plus an overspray with Dullcote or other clear flat finish may reduce the plastic effect.

In the real world, the grass stands up, lays down and points everywhere.

I mix the WS with Silflor and get good results. My current summer look as 4 shades of 2mm with about 10%4mm for variety.

Doing the old "Rub a balloon to create static" trick and then drawing it slowly across the grass field will help elevate more grass.

But like the others have said, use a mix of grass.

not bad.. it's the kind converted from the fly swatter.  apparently there's a cap and resistor you can remove, or bypass to supposedly get more 'umph'.. but I can't find the original article anymore

I have the static grass applicator from Noch.  I found it for a special price, but still a big piece of a hobby budget for a retiree on a fixed income.
I have use it to apply W/S and Siliflor static grass and am delighted with the results.
It does take some practice and to that end, I elected to take a scrap piece of extruded polystyrene (= pink foam) and paint it and then experiment with various application steps, i.e. such as applying different length and colors in a layered manner.
I also experimented with using diluted white glue over existing ground cover. 
I find most satisfying results by doing small areas and applying several lengths and colors.  I also have intemittently used the grass or weed clumps.

The silflor static grass is much more natural than the carpet fibers from WS

It is WAY too shiny. I usually add a tad to my Silfor stuff to add some variety....but I rarely use it.
