Agreed.  The pedestrian or "grocery getter" cars as CMW calls them are sorely lacking in N post 1950.  I count seven higher-end models, and they are spread across the decades: `59 Ford Custom 300, `59 Fairlane, `67 Ford Custom 300, `75 Impala, `78 Fairmont sedan and wagon, `96 Taurus.  Not much to choose from.   It's almost as bad as the lack of buses.

Specific cars I'd like to see for my era: (Late 60's early 70's)

Chevy II
Olds "Vista Cruiser" station wagon
Plymouth Fury
Plymouth Satellite/ Dodge Coronet
Dodge Dart/Plymouth Valiant
VW Beetle (The Wiking ones are nice, but a little pricey and getting rare)
Ford Futura
Ford Torino
Ford Bronco
International Harvester little SUV
Ford F-150
Chevy and Dodge pick ups - with optional caps, work boxes, and/or campers
Early 60's anomoles like late model Studebakers
AMC vehicles - the 70s crowd should be screaming for Gremlins and Matadors
A good civilian Jeep
Plymouth Barracuda

And would it kill Bachmann or someone to re-tool the venerable Corvette Stingray so it didn't look like it had a bad botox job?
Fresh takes on the VW micro bus and Camaro they offered years ago would also be nice.

Any model year from 1960 to 1970 would do for any of the above that apply.

Well Lee just took the list I was starting to compile. Large square and covered in chrome and I would be pretty happy for my mid 70s time frame. I asked about generic lot fillers from CMW and they said it would just be a toy at that point. I say I need toys so I can fill lots and have enough money left over for some nice models for the foreground scenes.

My main requirement would be for auto rack loads.  This requires minimal detail, and low weight.  And models appropriate for the era that open auto racks roamed the wild.

I could really go for some mid 1980's to 90's vehicles, such as:

Chevy Caprice (sedan and station wagon models)
Chevy Cavalier
Chevy 1500
Chevy S10 (Blazer and PU)
Chevy E3500 cab over box trucks
Ford 150-F350
Ford E350 Ambulance (box and van)
Ford E350 "Shorty" school buses.
Ford Crown vics
Buicks
Oldsmobiles
Toyota Corollas and Civics
City transit buses (the Tomy ones have the doors on the wrong side...my daughter says to drive them backwards)
International "Nathan" school buses in bullnose and long nose versions.
International "Heavy Ambulance"
Dresser bucket loaders, and excavators.
Caterpillar bucket loaders, rollers, excavators, scrapers, graders

not hard . . . but if the do a mid-80's cruiser and a mid-90s cruiser I'd be in for a few.

"Classic...." does me in.     I'm a modern guy and we are surely lacking although a fairly good supply of foreign cars are available..  I even have to strech to go back and pick up the Atheann trucks as they are quite old now.

The one problem with modern is the licensing. The newer it is, the more likely licensing is going to be tougher and more expensive.

The other problem with modern is, the newer the model car, the fewer and fewer modelers can justify it on their layout. As an example, a 2010 Taurus, How many modelers are actually modeling 2010-12. At least with classic cars, they can sell to anyone modeling from the time the car was manufactured up to today. You may have to have a car show to justify some of the cars, but they would still be plausible on a modern layout where you are not going to see a New Beetle on a transition era layout.

They need to satisfy the greatest number of people with the tooling so they can reap the best possible return. Anybody modeling up to the late 60's early 70's can use 50's era cars, you just need some newer cars to set the tone. I see all types of railfan photos of from the mid 60's with early 50's cars setting in parking lots and they are not rust buckets and junkers.
