N-Scale detail parts

I did not want to hijack the HAY BROS announcement thread so I started this new one.

I think it is time for N-scale to have real detail parts. I thoroughly enjoyed the Sunrise parts when they were available. They filled the need for detailing. I have to say though in todays standards they were a bit crude. Some were well done and others not so well, but we used them and tehy helped us create more realism in our models. For that I thank Sunrise and while Sunrise was still around, I supported tehm a lot with purcahses. It is time for someone to think outside the box. It is time for N-Scale to be a viable "MODELING" scale. Naturally there is the tiresome argument of the parts being to small. That is just not right. Put on some optivisors! I need optivisors to work in O-Scale.

For the past two years, I have been on and off designing N-Scale detail parts. Yeah they are small, but they look GREAT when done properly. I know what the acceptable compromises are. I have done hard parts and photo etch parts. Everything is in a test stage right now. I will not release ANYTHING until it is up to my personal standards and that could mean I will never release anything. That is not my intention though. I do not have a business or business name or anyhting like that. I am just doing some investigating and trying to learn my 3D drawing program. I have a bit of a handle on it, but the more complicated stuff I still need to learn.

With the advances in manufacturing technology, I think N-scale deserves its rewards. N-Scale has had to endure so so detail parts for way to long. The best detail part I ever saw in N-Scale was the LOCO-MOTIVES all weather cab window. Of course that is no longer around. I think the mold broke. We are getting great freight cars, but locomotives (my personal favorite topic) have begun to languish and fall behind. I offered my design services to Athearn, but they declined. I know Atlas would say the same thing. I even offered BLMA the parts for free and they declined. I was told that there is no market for locomotive detail parts. So much can be done with N-Scale now, but the manufacturers only have tunnel vision. So, I build and design my own models using what is available and with luck will be able to make it available to you all.

So with me spewing all that BS above, I hope to put my money where my mouth is and have my first product avalaible for you all to see around the beginning of next year. It is in design right now and I should have my first samples back in about a month or so. We'll see. I will tell you, they are parts that you would never even dream of having in N-Scale. I will also tell you, they are not for the faint of heart modeler or the impatient modeler. You will need patience, think outside the conventional box and have the desire to "BUILD" models. I am hoping to RPM N-Scale.

My second kit is already in dsign as well and I think you F-Unit fans will go nuts when you see it. I have theory tested it as well as mock up tested it and it works. It is designed to go with the Intermountian F, FP and B-Unit models. I have just a little bit more design to do on it and it will be ready for production.

I am not asking for anyones support because if anything, I will have the parts for my own personal modeling projects.

   I salute your efforts. I too have been working on an N-Scale project that will have value to others, but will provide more details at a later date.

Awesome Brian!  Can't wait to see what you have coming up!   For myself, tho I'm not an F-unit guy, I've been rather starved of the Sunrise parts for a while, esp. things like ditch lights, brake wheels, brake cylinders, MU cables, spare knuckles, the photo-etched Sinclair antennas, and more.  There is also a need for GPS domes, better cab windows and window frames, and finer chain.

Are you thinking of maybe some scale sized wire parts like grabirons and cut levers?   There aren't may existing offerings that aren't significantly oversized, so I fabricate my own, which takes a lot of time.

I also want to add, I don't at all mind paying more money for higher quality parts.

I have etched sinclair antennas. Theyare a three piece kit. The base, the blade and the cap.

My two cents --- bring on boxcar doors that fit the venerable MT PS-1 and Intermountain 40-footers.  The kitbash potential is huge, especially for 60's and 70's rebuilds with 7' - 9' wide doors.

That sound good too, but it is way to easy for me to start wandering all over the spectrum. I need to stay focused on a specific product group.

Sounds good, I think there is a demand for detail parts.  I just bought almost $50 worth of Detail Assoc parts just to superdetail a car repair facility and a couple of other structures.

I'd say just release something.  For every DA/Cal-Freight/BLMA we get a dozen companies making crude "coil loads" wrapped around a pencil and blobby detail parts carved out of a bar of soap.   If you have the knack to produce a good quality product, it will sell.
