From a snowfighter, Nice!  Don't forget the replaceable steel "blade" on the plow.  They are unpainted steel and bolted to the bottom of the plow.  They take the abuse of scraping on the road and do wear out.

Good luck Dave , Kathy suffers the same condition for about 5 years and fears submitting herself for that type of operation . Your recovery and results are of great interest to us . Please keep us informed .

Thanks, guys!

I'd be more than willing to share my back story ( :trollface:)...  Maybe I'll start a thread in the crew lounge.  I have a bit of a cold today, but hope I'm 100% for tomorrow.

In the meantime I have some period-correct 40' Trailvans en route for all those awesome TOFCs I have on order.

Dr. Dave, hope everything goes smoothly and your recovery is quick!

I spent some quality time with the soldering iron last week. A few burns, confounding shorts, mis-wiring of feeders, and a health dose of cursing later, a GG-1 lead a few brand new FVM wagontops up the grade to the end of the line.



Those beautiful FVM cars will roll all the way down the 1% grade on their own with just a little push! The Gandy Dancers also came over. We wired up the occupancy detectors, and we got a start on the grade up from staging to the east.

LTC Dave: Good luck! This old Army Dawg wishes you a speedy recovery! You're lucky it is that low! you should be able to get back like 95%-100% of your range of motion! My dad had L1-L2 and L3-L4 fused a few years back, he got back 90%, and after about 2 weeks, wearing the brace they precribed to him, he was up and around like nothing happend.

As for modeling, nothing really to report. Took apart some of my european stuff, to clean and oil it. Swapped out a TCS Z2 decoder for a Lenz Silver Mini in the Heisler, and installed the Z2 into my Arnold DB V200/BR221. Side note, the throttle control is jumpy at best on the Z2, I like TCS stuff, but I am not happy with these. I gotta swap out the one I have in the Shay sometime soon. I have yet to find a tiny decoder I like better than the Lenz Silver Mini.

I fired up my 2 new Bachmann RS3's today.

They got a little tweaking before they were programmed...

They were slightly out of gauge (too narrow– which is typical for new locomotives being put out by all manufacturers).
The truck on one of them had an issue with its brass wiper strip not making contact with the bottom of the frame– So I dropped the truck and bent the wiper back.

I programmed them out and let'em loose.  Both operated A-OK.  Nice & smooth just like those offered by Atlas and Kato. 

The NYC RS3 was quiet.  The PRR RS3 is noisy... It runs fine, but is noisy.

I didn't notice before, but the shells are slightly different from each other.

Stripped that BNSF paint off the Kato shell with 99% isoprop and started the Kaslo SD50 kit.  The etched front and rear railings that come with the SD 50/60 kits are really nice.

Added the final piece of the Mississippi River Bridge; the stairway leading up to the control house.  I used Gold Metal Products brass photo etched stairways and railings.  More pictures and information on the blog http://genevasub.blogspot.com

There is a silver lining :)  10% disability from the VA - 5 extra points for veterans preference :)
