What new boxcar

Along with new gons we would like, I want to start one on what new boxcar we would like.  We have the x58 coming soon (great news), the B&O wagontops are on the way (more great news).  The Milwaukee ribsides have been here for awhile and are great cars.  So what is your wishes for a new bocar.

I would vote for a waffleside car from the 70's.  The Souther cars come to mind but AT&SF and Conrail has some wafflesides also.

You have to figure that at some point, ExactRail is going to release their Southern waffle box in N.  That unfortunately is enough to deter other manufacturers from giving it more serious consideration.  If the ExR model didn't exist, that would be one I would consider.  Though the next ESM boxcar probably should be one that utilized an underframe similar to the Keystone or Hydro-Cushion used on the X58, in order to start consolidating components.  But it's going to be X58 for the next couple of years with a little XIH sprinkled in - unless the X58 demand explodes through the roof, which would free up some capital and accelerate the product release schedule.

There's probably 10-20 different pre-70's box cars I could use.  None of which are road specific.   And there remains the issues of updating some current tooling.

The GA 50' RBLs that Moloco Trains did in HO would be very nice from a home road standpoint.

Let ExR know.  The more people that tell them, the more likely it will get done.

Triple that ditto. Single, then double door. 40-foot stretches would be neat too, but I understand the minimal market these would have.

I also ditto Mike's recommendation for a real PS1 series. I would love to see InterMountain take that on, because of the capacity to part those kits cars out for kitbash fodder. I would especially like to see a riveted PS1, like those C&NW used.

I also ditto Jason's GA 50' RBL suggestion. (Boy, seems like N scale has a significant amount of 60s era modelers. Now can we get the vehicles to go with that please?)

I know it's not a boxcar, per se, but it is a car in the shape of a box that we transition and 60s-70s era modelers could use - a GATX 40' steel reefer. The variety with the mid-car height horizontal rivet strip, like Walthers has produced in HO. A hinged door variety and plug door variety would be nice. The well-detailed metal reefers available in N are all PFE prototypes - a sad fact when you consider a lot of nice packing house billboard paint schemes have been released on the wrong car type. Frankly, we need a meat reefer to go with those produce cars.

Plus 1 for me on the 50 ft RBLs. A nice rivet side 40 footer would be good too.
