Eric, while you still can, staple some fiberglass screening between the back of the subroadbed and the wall, and staple some more along the front edge as a flexible guardrail.  You'll thank me later, especially since you live in Earthquakeville....

After a lengthy search, I don't have any photos of said installations on mine...  I'll have to click on off for you.

Lee, something along those lines is in the plans, but I haven't figured out specifically what I want to do yet.  It will be done before that area gets hard to access.

I made it to the work bench this weekend after a few months of higher priorities.

I finally got around to ordering some M4D long hoods and gave the GP15-1 shell a once over - should do up nice and correct some of the Trainman compromises:



For those that have played with these, any tricks to assembly with the Atlas cab/short hood and walkway?

I also stripped the lettering of a BLMA gon and played around with some superglue... pretty happy with progress:

Are you using the Superglue to represent the thin sides being pushed outward from the loads?  If so, looking forward to seeing the finished result.

James, Using super glue to simulate the dents and distress of the thin sheet metal sides of a gondola is great idea!  I've been trying to fiqure this one out for along time myself  , so I have continued to procrastinate working on my fleet of Conrail gondolas. I agree with Allen, however I hope that you with share with us the progress of your work including the following steps.

heat the sides up then place a block of wood of foam in there until they cool and they should give you that effect

Are you tearing up the CFNR unit? Or configuring it to be the correct version?  Interested to see your progress, as I skipped on the CFNR Geeps, because they're the wrong version.

In a smilar vein, we used Velcro and vapour barrier to make these protectors on the inside of our helix at the club layout:



Works well, and the velcro makes it removeable for track maintenance/wiring/cleaning up the derailed cars that it prevented from falling to the floor. It's paid off already - the first train through the helix after our summer construction period snagged on a couple of loose wires that hadn't been properly secured and might have spilled cars out onto the floor if not for the protection.

Basically finished the first loop of the helix.  Track just needs to be glued down.   Won't be able to do much more for the rest of Sept, but at least now I have a procedure down such that I can probably complete the rest of the helix at the rate of one loop per week.

Compromise?  No.  They just chose to make one version, representing both the later phase of the GP15 as well as the GP15AC's.  It is great that Mark 4 Designs has additional hoods that modelers can use to modify existing models... just wish he could do something for steam as well.

Installed 5 TCS CN-GP decoders in my Milw GP30's. Now on to CN installs in my old SD45's.

Man, I'm actually doing something n related.
I removed the shell from my Life Like SWsomething,in preparation for paint stripping.
Now off to the store for some alcohaul (hehe) to knock the old paint off.
I'll keep you guys posted on any progress.
