I need to figure out how to get in there.  :)

He (Danneman) was at the Denver GTE a year or so ago signing his book out of the Wig-Wag booth, and I thought about making an introduction, but I never went back to the booth.  Maybe there's some sort of Denver 'in crowd' I can weasel into.  There aren't too many layouts on my need-to-see list, but his is right up there.

I've seen proto photos that don't look that good. Incredible. Wow, just wow.

Epic - noting or pertaining to a long poetic composition (the layout), usually centered upon a hero (the train), in which a series of great achievements or events is narrated in elevated style (the struggle to reach Moffat Tunnel).

Mike is an amazing artist; his work is stunning.

I was very fortunate to receive a 14 minute long "advance copy" video from Mike from which I believe many of these photos were extracted.  The video of the trains moving slowly around Big 10 curve is stunning...as is all the rest on the video.  I believe MR is going to use the video in conjunction with an article on Mike's layout and therefore it is inappropriate to distribute it :(...but some more things to look forward to in the not too distant future.

Mark-

These slideshows were made prior to the video.  But you're right, the video is an entirely new form of epic!  We'll have to wait for Kalmbach to share it.

I'm sure the big K will lock it up as subscriber only content...  Still, what incredible exposure for the scale, and the possibilities it holds.

Skibbe,

Did you get the 15 minute version of the video Mike emailed some of us about a month ago?  I thought I saw your email address included.  Also, his article about his wreck trains in NSR was cool.  I have the dubious honor of wrecking the wreck train last time I was over there . . .

Yep!  Good move on the wreck train, but looks like he has two so you could be rescued.  ;)

I haven't seen the layout since he opened up for the NSC in Denver.  He's made a ton of progress since then.

Sometimes I wonder if I can rewire my brain to start thinking big picture like Danneman.  With all the great scenery the Peco track and lack of wire grab irons don't stick out.  At all.  Simple weathering of equipment goes a long way.  But sometimes I just can't stop rivit counting and end up spending more time on equipment than the layout!
