The email announcement arrived late this afternoon.  Don't know if the website has been updated yet.  ATSF Super Chief re-issue - new F7A engine number (boards), new car names/numbers for the 8-car main set and 4-car add-on set, as well as the separate F7A/3-car starter set.

Also, new roads on the SD45 - ATSF blue warbonnet, SP speed lettering, UP.  Two road numbers each.

I gotta be the first to say this.  MORE WEST COAST MODELS!    I do like my Kato engines but do wish they would do more areas of the country.  There, now I feel better.

I keep forgetting how western Penn Central and Viewliners are.... must we have this discussion every month?

Kato, just like MTL, has maintained a monthly release schedule of new and re-released products. Some months you get something, some months you don't.

You're right James.  Everyone knows that the only thing that rides the rails in the east is passenger equipment.  Nope, never any freight trains here!  And besides, SD45's are made for RDG, CR and PRR by Bachmann now, so we don't need to have any Kato models.

The market has proven that no one has bought Kato SD45's in eastern roads in over 20 years...  And that has nothing to do with the fact that they haven't produced any...

Is the SP scheme for the SD45 rebuild units? I remember seeing one in Framingham years ago.

Depending
on road numbers the SP SD45s could stand in for SD40M rebuilds in SD 45 carbodies...
Support fine modeling

Lee, I understand the frustration of Kato not doing models in paint schemes we want. I'm sure we all have one or more. I know I'd love a bunch of Espee AC4400CWs, even though it would be a foobie.

I just don't buy the east-west argument.

Bravo...

Ditto!

I would LOVE for Kato to make SD45s in Eastern roads,A nice pair of PC SD45's would really be something.

Long ago (1997 exactly) there was a shop "Express Station Hobbies" who sold custom painted Kato SD45s. They also offered them in PRR and I bought one from them.  It is a nice model, just as good as factory painted.
Maybe there are other ones around.

Let's not forget the many other roads across east, south, and midwest that harbored the SD45 in their paint - Frisco, WC, Susquehanna, N&W, CB&Q, RJ Corman, C&NW, Milwaukee, Southern, SCL, Seaboard System, Clinchfield, Buffalo & Pittsburgh, TRRA, Ohio Central, CSX, Chessie, Nebraska Central, Guilford...
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

The fact is that, since the turn of the century, Kato has a strong preference with roads with "SANTA" or "PACIFIC" in the name. ;) But since they did some PC and PRR stuff this will take care of all the modelers of roads such as the ones Sizemore listed. :P

Now, easterners, stop yer b*tchin! ;D

Mark (is impressed that Kato, instead of parking this tooling for another 14 years, announced another run!)
