It appears that the MT 50' double door car has 2 - 7 foot doors per side ( actauly they measure a bit more) while most prototypes I see have a 7 and an 8 foot for their 15 foot wide opening (give or take)

Does anyone make Youngstown or Superior doors in 8, 9  or 10 foot sizes ?

I haven't found any yet.  A superior door wouldn't be to hard to etch something that looked good.  JnJ has/had a 6' 5 panel superior the look nice.  If there was ever a suitable car, I would draw a bunch of different doors.  With thier small size, they're affordable enough if you're just doing a few cars. 

This is a RPed PS door on the all steel MTL car.




I'm about to check my Powerball Ticket.  If it's good news, I will be announcing a line of PS 40' bocars with all door sizes and types and also a GATC 50' insulated boxcar.....

Nothing.  Maybe next time.

The Youngstown doors on the Athearn model are properly sized.  I suggest using that model (or extract the doors from it if you require them for something other than a 50' PS-1).

Thanks for bringing that up.  I've been wanting to find my Athearn cars to see why they didn't come to mind.

Here's a few things to know when looking at the Athearn door.

First, I don't think it matches the doors used on 40' box cars.  The 50' doors have a thicker boarder on the sides than the 40' cars.   However, you may be able to sand the sides down to something close to 8'+ (the door is 9' stock) and then just maybe have an out of place tack board. 

Second, it won't fit the MTL car without modification to it or the car (or both). 


Not a bad place to start looking depending on what you're trying to do.
