Intermountain forgets N scale in February

Con Cor is going to kick some serious butt with their interurban and solarium cars in HO; having modeled a CPR solarium car I can only hope they bring these to N scale asap because I need a few more and I'm just not up to scratching them again.....

I'm not being critical of IM's lack of n scale this month; they come to the plate each month with something, I'm just mourning the fact that Con Cor's Solarium announcement was HO...boo hoo............. :'(

Don't worry, you'll have even less to get excited about from some esatablished manufacturers for awhile. Part of the lack of IM announcements is that some of the new kids on the block are muscling in on some of their sales. Less sales means less produced.

I'm still waiting the the January releases to show up in shops.  Nothing yet. 

Specifically looking for the SP observation car.

I think that's the advance release flier. The upcoming release page, which was updated yesterday, shows some ACF Centerflows due "Feb/Mar" and a boatload more due in March.

Too bad they're not doing the PS-1 in N scale though.

It basically becomes a vicious circle. More models spread over a market that is not growing fast enough to soak up the product means less new tooling gets done. Less new tooling, diminishing sales and no growth. Trying to strike a balance is not easy for anybody. The same applies to the HO scalers, but with double the numbers of N scalers, it makes it easier to justify some of the tooling costs for the majors. For the new players, the margin for error is tighter, but some other factors makes it more doable. So instead of getting a dearth of new products from an IM or other established carrier, we get some really cool stuff we may not have otherwise gotten.

For what I'm hearing from my numerous e-mails there is a lot of new N Scale products in the oven for "later this year"..Funny I was told that in 2010..

What I did see was lots of new HO products instead..Of course I was told by one the tooling budget for  N was cut...At least one in  the five I contacted was honest and none mention the current economy..

Of course Bachmann tossing out new DCC equipped locomotives may have them rethinking their marketing strategy.

       When I want a Solarium Car I want what Pud kitbashed, or an N Scale version of Walthers full leingth Solarium Car with six wheel trucks, not Con Cor's adaptive reuse of turning their commutter car which has end windows into a Solarium,by removing the diaphram and adding several high windows to the sides at one end. Nothing personal against IM who has released some nice items and some poorly assembled items in N nor against Con Cor who has been a pioneer in N Scale since the early days. I hope MT does a Solarium,but it will probably be an open platform car. Nate Goodman (Nato).
