Try applying a layer of paint in a color similar to the desert sand and sprinkling the sand on top.  Once the paint dries, it will hold the sand, so you will not have to flood it with glue.  And, if you did use a color similar to the sand, bare patches won't be as apparent.  But, if so, paint on another coat in light areas and try again.  Hopefully, this will solve your problem of the sand darkening because of the adhesive.

Finished the floor-to-ceiling bookcase in the basement and stored most of the future layout's equipment.  This unit has about 50% more capacity than the two bookcases combined that I was using previously.



It will also double as my mini photo-studio, for white-background product website photos.

Not much. BTW, these weekend updates are starting earlier and earlier, pretty soon they'll start on Friday! :P

This past week I re-motored 5 diesels. Four more diesels remotors to go and the fleet will be up to date, at least in my eye.

I decided I too ambitious of a plan for the space I was taking up with the layout, needs of the house, and wallet size so I removed two sections of my layout yesterday and spent today cleaning up the destructive mess and building the small section I now needed on the other side of the layout room,

Went to the B&O Museum Saturday for the oldest to take some photos for HS assignment.  Didn't have time to go inside so she only shot around the parking lot.
Went to the Greenberg Show in Fredericksburg today but didn't find much worth taking home.  Did get a couple ConCor FunnelFlows and containers.  The youngest wanted me to get her a Chessie SD7 or GP40 but we didn't.  I thought I brought her up better than to like Eastern roads, specifically Chessie. ;D

I built 3 basic log cars simmular to the NP Prototype kit that GHQ offers this week. Mine are scratchbuilt brass though, all soldered assembly. I just have the rough cars done, no details yet like brake wheels, brake rigging, paint, etc. So their really isn't much to show. After doing 3 of them I got the process down to about 2 hours assembly time, I have been able to do one a night, except tonight.

Be careful

The wife and I started doing that a few weeks ago when we finally got NetFlix.  Now it's all the oldest wants to watch.  We're on the last episode of season 3.  Literally spent two full weekeds planted on the couch.  Even catch the oldest saying "Frak!!"

Went to the WGH show in Atlanta. Nothing intresting from Kato, Walthers (save for the good-looking girl my age having trouble rerailing an F-unit; I thought it was funny), Kato, BLI, and MTH. Athearn was the only one that showed anything I was intrested in; those being the new GP9, a BN SW15 with flexicoils, 5 different fuel tenders, and PC&F boxes.

Didn't find any of the stuff I was looking for. But I would up with 8 more BN cars and a trailer.

Most of the good deals were for the N-scalers (Isn't IM cars for $10 good, not in N scale) and most of the HO stuff was at or above MSRP.

installed a few switch throws, donated a few minutes at a friends ballasting session, painted some trim in the basement, hooked up some power drops, did a little scenery and ran trains for about 4 hours.  Also worked on some Op's Session documentation.

All in all, a weekend full of trains in the basement.
